I have me some new high top sneakers I wore one day recently and stepped in gum. I tried rubbing them in the grass, on the concrete, on a doormat, used a scratch awl to try to scrap it away and even tried the Goof Off in a can with a shop towel.

Is there an easy way to remove the gum without damaging the shoes?

Wd40, and pry it off. Merkava's idea also great

The gum base is a synthesized material. Lighter fluid or camping stove fuel will remove it. Probably any petroleum solvent will do it, but I've only used the two I mentioned.

I once got gum on a scarf of mine (some kid in college thought he was being smart) and tried everything to get it off including putting the scarf in the freezer, it didn't work in my case. But then I tried with WD-40 and it took the gum right off like it was never even there.

Lighter fluid didnt seem to help. I was out of wd-40 so I tried their specialist penetrant and it didnt seem to help. The gum has been there about a week and is in the grooves on the underside(rubber part). So, I just just scraped with a plastic gasket scraper the best I could.

Merkava_4, you would put a shoe in the freezer? Even if in a plastic bag it still seems unsanitary to me.
