Did anybody catch the program on CNBC tonight as to the safety of these rifles? Apparently for years some of these rifles have gone off accidenally when the safety is switched off. The military sniper teams have had trouble too. They showed a soldier close the bolt, turn the safety off, and touch the bolt lightly and the rifle fired. They said the problem has been well known for decades. They interviewed a 98 year old man who was retired from Remington and if they would have used his correction modification back in 1948 it would have cost the company an additional 5.5 cents per rifle. Now, if Remington would issue a self-imposed recall the cost to fix each existing rifle would be something like $300,000,000. This story concerns me because I own a Remington Model 700 in 7mm Rem. Mag. I guess there have been several lawsuits and injuries and fatalities throughout the years.
