First section towards the bottom, Roy Howell talks about GF-4/High Mileage oils, SI-1 etc.

Speaks highly of esters. Surprised?

When all else fails, I'd have to agree.

This guy doesnt sound like a tribologist, just a marketing guy. I don't trust any of this. He has said nothing that hasn't already been said.

Dominic, Roy Howell was the head chemist at Lubrizol for years. He is not a marketing guy at all. Your quotes are from the guy asking the questions. Get a clue.

Like I keep saying, where is the standardized test data?

The point of this interview, which includes stunningly leading "questions" from the interviewer which Roy Howell answers with loving agreement.

If Redline wants to claim fuel economy improvements, how about publishing Sequence VIB test results for their oils vs. the top three best selling motor oils?

I'm not picking on the guy, he might be brilliant, but the interviews I listened to were pretty worthless. Yes I know I quoted the interviewer, but this lead tribologist never corrected him on any of the loaded questions and answered it straight. The whole thing to me sounded like a commercial, or infomercial.

I do not know context of interview but I can tell you that this was Roys "basic Motor Oil 101" interview for JOE public he can go into much more info/detail that would be lost on JOE public. I did think the interviewer was stating some "facts" that are not and Roy did not correct him but I think that perhaps any publicity is good and if this guy calls me I would say the same plain vanilla stuff.

bruce is right. It wasn't meant to be ground breaking. I probably should have posted it bc I had a feeling this would happen. It was a very basic interview. We all know how little the public knows about motor oil.

Shoot - I was expecting him to read off the exact formulas, and the reason for the exact amount of base oils and additives in all of Redline's products. I feel like I was ripped off by that link, buster.

I listened to the High Mileage Oil interview and was dissapointed. He took the standard line of seal conditioning agents not being the best thing. Now that may be true of some HM oils, but I am convinced that Maxlife is not like that. It would have been nice if he has pointed out that HM oils do offer a more robust formulation than your typical garden-variety starburst/EC motor oil. But perhaps he does not see it that way.

I haven't listened to this link yet but I know that when Don Terrill interviewed me for the BITOG 2003 Speedtalk.com radio interview I was given only a laundry list of "possible" questions from someone who knew little science of lubricants or testing. My delays and uh's are too many even with that. Also I was really afraid of slipping and disclosing something I was working on so hesitation was because of that at times.

I DID try to give nuggets of gold for the interview, which BTW was not a compensated event for me. When we had to do a two show interview I figured something was right.

"Dominic, Roy Howell was the head chemist at Lubrizol for years."

Well in this interview he sounded more like the Oxiclean guy of infomercial fame than he does like a chemist.
