Redline MT-90 or 75W90NS?

With the 5sp in the Mazda3, it has been known how notchy the 1st to 2nd gear can get in the cold winter times. So I have been using MT-90 for a year and I still find it hard to shift in the morning.

The parts store that carries that Redline oil recommanded that i should be using 75W90NS instead of the MT-90. This is because it's a GL-5 spec oil (which the transmission calls for either API GL-4/5 in all weather conditions).

My question is, will the 75-90WNS oil be safe for the transmission? Or could it be too slippery?

Unless I'm mistaken, the prescribed cure for hard shifting on cold mornings is to mix MT-90 50:50 with MTL.

Someone will be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong.

What about D4ATF? Does any1 know if we can use for a manual transmission in lieu of the above mention for colder climes? (Mz3 also here).

He requires a 75w90. Mazda doesn't care whether its GL4 or GL5.

An ATF is way too thin and won't protect as well.

75w90NS is a great fluid. But, I don't think it'll be any better then the MT90 in the cold.

As already mentioned, thin the 75w90 down with some MTL. 25% should do it. Don't go more then 50% MTL unless you're a rebel.

Or, do what some automakers did and run a 75w85 to help with shifting isssues. SpecialtyFormulations has a 75w85.
