This is for a motorcycle but it is built like a car with a seperate transmission, shaft drive and rear drive gear.

The manual calls for Agip Rota mp 80w90 in transmission and rear drive.
(yes the bike is Italian, Moto Guzzi)

Agip Rotra is a GL-5 oil. (according to a few sites dealing with Agip)

I purchased Redline 75W90NS (GL-5)It is listed as this:

"75W90NS - recommended for manual transmissions and non-limited-slip transaxles that recommend 90 WT oils. Can be used in racing limited-slip units to increase lockup and reduce wheel spin. Street-driven rear-wheel drive cars should use regular Red Line 75W90 or 80W140."

This adds to the confusion, along with redline saying that using GL-5 in an application calling for GL-4 will reduce syncro life by half.

Bottom line, is this a good pick for my bike?

aircooled, usually, GL-5 is for rear ends and older manual transmissions and GL-4 is for modern synchromesh transmissions.

Your bike would probably be happy with either but the GL-5 typically has more barrier wear additives.

Contact Dave Granquist at Red Line with all the specifics of your application and see what he recommends.

The reason for GL-4 and not GL-5 in automotive transmissions is corrosion of the bronze parts from the EP additives. Motorcycle transmissions to not have them so GL-5, which has better EP properties is preferred.

I used Castrol Hypoy H 80W-90 GL-5 in my BMW motorcylcle driveline.
