This. Original spec Z1 was nothing special. MaxLife available ~$18 gallon through Walmart order online for store pick up. Been using it on two Honda with simple d&fs 25-30k miles, one a V6 3.0L, both working fine. As for viscosity, ML being a full synthetic also has lower starting viscosity too, but greater much shear stability than spec Z1. You'll find the same for majority full synthetic ATFs now.

Not all Hondas had/have a serviceable ATF filter, 01 Civic EX one example, non serviceable. Though Honda does not go out their way to label it as such, it appears your MDX has a cartridge type filter element that 'can be serviced'. It's doable, but like many things getting to it prep work more time consuming than actual replacement. Diagram shows cartridge, though it says Ody same part number and similar diagram as 07 MDX found HERE . Credit to JTK for posting diagram HERE. I'd add as disclaimer, confirm Honda part number(s) and information prior to purchase.

Thanks for the info. I will probably go with the redline D4. Seems like from some Acura forms guys like it, their was another post that they're mixing it with type F redline racing bc it does not have FM in it. It shifts hard and faster. I'm not going to mess with that

I'd also confirm that you want to split the trans from the engine to get to that filter because that's what you're going to have to do. Why they chose to put it there we will never know, but you're not getting to it without serious work.

While I can't speak to the MDX engine specifically, the arrangement and schematic look very similar to the 3.0L V6 (like the MDX also a J series engine) Accord I own which uses a similar trans cartridge. No "split of the trans from the engine" is required for the 3.0L.

As noted a fair amount of prep work required to get to filter, but once there is doable. The linked MDX thread for the 3.7L J engine MDX appears to confirm that same information. One comment says, "you will have to take a lot of stuff off to get to it", and estimate was ~1 hour to do (seems optimistic). Good thumbnail schematics and information provided the thread, one a reverse view. The first very similar to or same as schematic above. MDX Trans Filter Discussion Thread.

As an aside and point of information, while the quoted declaimer and Re: are to my post, the name credited (Jimzz) is incorrect.
