Does anyone know of anybody running Redline 5w-20 in a LS1 or LS2? I would really like to see a used oil analysis with that engine/oil combo.

HT/HS - 3.3
Noak - 8%
Flash - 484F
9.1 cSt

I ran Redline 10W30 in my 01 LS1 for about four years before realizing my engine didn't like it.

If no UOA, then what's your definition of your engine not liking it.

Consumption?
Engine Loud?
Poor Mileage?
Subpar idle?
Vehicle allergic to moly?....lol

Remember Redline is not GM certified for the vette. If you're still under warranty you might run into difficulties should the engine have problems. If you run especially hard it might be a choice.

Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 is popular on bitog, and is on the ok list for the LS2.

I ran redline 5w-20 in my LS2 for several fills. For a thin oil, it did not have the same chatter and was very smooth. My used oil analysis would be of no value to you because I beat the car like a red-headed stepchild.

I have put a lot of miles on this motor and gave used a lot of different oils and grades (20,30,40) but I keep going back to Royal Purple XPR 5w-20. It allows for more hp on the dyno than any other oil and is the best gas mileage and wear numbers. The Redline 5w-20 did fine every time I ran it though considering what the car is put through.

Are you kidding me? That is exactly the UOA I would want to see!

Redline 5w-20 would probably be the only 20wt I'd ever attempt to run in a LS2 engine.

My experience has been that the twenty weights give a far superior UOA in my engine. I don't presume to know why, nor do I care. However, there is a bit of chatter in the motor with some of them. The redline 5w-20 however is silky smooth, no problems. The only thing I can say is that the first UOA with Redline looked poor, but got better with the second. I was tempted to switch to GC recently but since it looks discontinued, decided to stay with the RP only because the iron numbers were significantly less than with RL. That aside, the used oil analysis looked very similar. I do not post my used oil analysis because I operate my cars under extreme conditions and it would not be fair to the oils.

I post my used oil analysis and I guarantee I beat my oil to death. Yes a used oil analysis from a monster small block bow tie has no value to the average BITOG poster....but there are many of us that would glean valuable info from your experience in the thin world....we don't faint when our copper is 70 or lead is a kabillion

Post up man....I'm running a 30 weight right now in our thin experiment and would be curious of your 20 weight experience man.

One of the things with Redline that is great is that you can usually drop a grade lower than what is called for, pick up a few Hp and still have great protection.

If I were racing a Ls2 Id probably experiment with Red Line 5w-20. If you look at the specs, it's HT/HS is higher than both Amsoil 5w30 and Mobil 1 5w30. It will also have higher film strength from the PE base oil.

I'm not surprised the second UOA looked better. Red Line will flat out tell you that wear metals spike and you need to run it a few times for the best results.

When the oil is first introduced in an engine the wear metals can show slightly elevated levels, compared to other oils. This is the effect of the additive package reacting with oxides on the surface, thus it appears as wear metal but isn't actually due to wear, it isn't the result of metal to metal contact. They typically will decrease with further tests after additional mileage. Using these tests to compare wear between two oils is problematic, these numbers are parts in parts per million, actually very small differences. I wouldn't expect numbers would always be higher, they are different products and can behave a little different.
