Anyone ever tried this stuff? I remember back in the mid/late 90's I'd see billboards for this beer all over Detroit. The billboards have long since disappeared, but I just found this beer at a local Meijer and I decided to try it. It's actually quite good. Kind of tastes like bread, or more specifically, bread crust. Sounds odd, but it is quite good. It was something like $15 for a 30-pack. I'm no cheapie when it comes to beer, but I do love finding a good cheap beer to stock up on from time to time (Genessee Cream Ale, PBR are other good cheap beers IMO).

I also enjoy a PBR even though normally I buy craft beers. I haven't had a Red Dog in a long time, but back in college 98~01 that was 44 bucks a keg and we went through a lot of it. I'm not sure what the story is with the Plank Road Brewery, but since that and Ice House are pretty scarce I'd think that you might be enjoying some of the last Red Dog you'll see.

PBR is cheap and easy to drink. Havent had the other although our selection in canada is quite small compared to yours.

Red Dog was the beer of choice on tap when I was up north in college

It was cheap.

We looked all over for the Plank Road Brewery back then. Turns out that Plank Road was the original name of State Street....where the Miller Brewing Company was founded. We should have known.

there is no cheap microbrew.

We drank at the Pabst brewery often and they would often have obscure brews intended for export on tap (It was free with the tour and sometimes they didn't cut you off at two)

Continued to drink Red Dog when I came back to Fort Worth. They sponsored one of my favorite bands that should have but never quite made it big.

Remember the hidden picture on red dog bottle caps? Turn the picture of the dog head upside down....

I haven't seen Red Dog since the late 90's or early 2000. It was pretty popular. I thought they stopped making it.

Yeah - lots of them here. A local Harris Teeter has a bunch of 30 packs on sale for $13.99 - Miller High Life, Natural Light, Keystone Light and Busch Light. All cheap and drinkable, but not exactly craft beers.

Yea, I've had plenty of Red Dog. It's quite good with a nice red hue and a decent flavor w/o being too robust.

If you like Genny Cream(as we call it here in Rochester where it's brewed) you may like the Genny RED and others brewed by the previously known Genessee Brewing Co(now named High Fall Brewing Co) Rochester, NY.

We brew a lot of barrels of beer here! Even for other beer companys.

I love how the Genny and Cream Ale cans went back to their simple older design. Good, cheap, simple, local beer.

Anyone coming to Rochester must visit the Genessee Brew House(Haus)Resturant/Bar and visit the micro/pilot brewery downstairs for a taste of 4 different beers of your choice for $2(do this before you eat upstairs). The glasses are little Pilsner glasses with about 2-3 finger shots of beer in'em. Lots of beer history at their gift store.

At the micro/pilot brewery, there are many flavors to try from, Blond, Porter, Pilsners, Lagers, Dark etc. I haven't tried them all but, I like the PORTER

I miss Genny. I used to live in Buffalo, and it is hard to find here in VA. You never see the Cream Ale which was my fave.

Same way at the Coors plant. Of course we would go on the "short" tour which was going directly to the sampling area. I remember my brother and I going there before my cousins wedding. We had a pretty good buzz going at the wedding.
