I was wondering if anyone has compared UOA quality and timing of oil change against manufacturer recommended OCI? How accurate are the manufacturers in recent vintage cars especially since they are recommending 7500 mi changes on conventional oil?
Typically the metrics are TBN % left, aka useful oil life remaining.
So for example, if Mobil 1 5w30 starts with a TBN of 12 (VOA) and a TBN of 1 is determined to be time to change; then 11 TBN over say 15,000 miles is the oils' useful life or 1364 miles per TBN.
