Recommendations, 4.2L supercharged Jaguar engine

A friend of mine just purchased a 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged, with the eight-cylinder engine mentioned in the title. Manual recommends Castrol GTX 5W-30 every 7,500 miles. I find this to be a little ridiculous, considering the brutal conditions experienced by the engine (the car will be driven with gusto). He does not want to spend money on UOAs, which is disappointing. Any recommendations on a synthetic that can handle ~7,500 miles, without testing for confirmation?

I was thinking Amsoil, since it is capable of extended intervals. But I dunno.

I would change the oil at 5k intervals and use only synthetic. Amsoil is great oil if he wants to spend the funds. he can also get away with any other full synthetic such as M1, PP, etc...

The supercharger will heat up the oil well but the larger sump that the engine has can compensate for the heat. Synthetic will provide another measure of protection against heat and break down.

I just checked the Amsoil product application guide and this SUV holds 10qts of oil. When I first saw GTX every 7,500, I had a feeling it has a large sump capacity.

Any good 30wt synthetic will work. I would use Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. Can be found anywhere and is as good as any other brand up to 10k miles or so.

10 quarts! Holy moly. I actually convinced him today to do one UOA, on his first oil change (car was bought used with 25,000 miles). Perhaps the GTX can handle the recommended interval since the sump is so large?

The only reason I ask is because he has about 20,000 miles of free oil changes, thrown in by the dealer as an incentive. By doing the oil change ourselves with synthetic oil, he accrues the full cost of the ordeal, versus getting it done for free. A slight dilemma.

Partly that and partly API SM oils are better than ever.

I would just take the free oil changes and maybe do one on your own in between out of your own pocket and get a uoa with the money saved with the free oil changes.

I used XD-3 0w40 in an XJS with a dose of moly, works fine. Previous fill was M1 10w30
