Spending more money on oil isn't going to extend engine life. Having experience with these engines I can tell you they last forever if you just follow the maintenance schedule.
That being said I used Mobil 1 0w-40 euro this past oil change in my c3. Not that the engine was ever noisy before and not that it wasn't already smooth however this oil made and already nice running engine into one that runs so quiet I can hear the intake sucking air now whereas I never noticed before.
And do yourself a favour and add a can of liqui-moly motor oil saver and a can of mos2. Every ls engine I add this stuff to gets better mileage and runs beautifully.
