Recommendation for 15 nissan versa

I have a 2015 Nissan Versa 1.6L V4 with 400+ miles now. I've been reading a lot about oils this past week but am still unsure which to go with. Car recommends 5w30 and OCI at 7,5k miles. Car is under warranty. You guys made a good point not to get EP oils since I'll be forced to change the oil before then because of the warranty that I have. The oils I see being recommended over and over is Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Pennzoil Ultra. But nothing in the area of oil I'm needing for shorter OCI. I began looking at Amsoil 5w30 XL but it seems to not get much respect from you guys because there isn't much data given from Amsoil.

With your guys expertise in oils, what would you recommend for a commuter car like mine that needs to follow a 7,5k OCI?

In reality, I'll probably change at 5k because most of those miles are high RPMs from highway driving.

Amsoil isn't too hard to get in my area. Priced around $7.80 for XL.

Or would using a EP oil be beneficial since most of the miles driven are high RPMs and change at 7,5k?

I have a 2016 versa with the same engine and I just switched over to Pennzoil Platinum today with an OEM filter. Runs smooth and you can get it at walmart for $22 in my area.

You're overthinking it. Just get some Mobil 1, has a $12 rebate so around $10.88 for a 5 quart jug at Walmart after rebate. Get 2 and you'll be set for a couple years.

Just about any good conventional oil of the proper viscosity and certifications is good for 5K mile OCIs. If you want to extend the OCIs to 7.5K miles, I would go with a synthetic such as Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Plstinum with OEM filter. FWIW, Highway miles are much easier on a car than city driving.

Amsoil and other boutique oils are a point blank waste of money on a economy car with 7.5k oil change intervals. Run the cheapest name brand conventional oil you can find in 5w30 with an OEM filter and sleep easy.

Also, it's not a V4.

Higher RPM highway miles are much easier on the oil and engine than stop and go lower RPM miles. A good quality conventional 5w30 or semi-synthetic blend will do you just fine for a 5k to 7.5k run.

Pick one that is readily available to you and get a decent quality filter and enjoy the ride!

I'm running Chevron Supreme 5w30 with a Carquest "Blue" bought from Rock Auto for $1.41 in my wife's 2009 Versa 1.8 coming up on 80k miles.

Right, the oil doesn't matter as much as changing it on a regular basis and not let it go too long or run low.

As for V4, very few of those in cars, mostly found in motorcycles. Cars typically have an inline 4 cylinder, you start to get into a V configuration when doing 6/8/10/12 cylinders although there are also some inline 6 cylinders.

Go to Walmart and pick any synthetic 5-30....Quaker, Mobil 1, Pennz, Valvoline, Havoline,, even Super Tech. $18 to 22 for most of them.

I have the 2014 Versa. Nice car. I have used synthetic, blend, and conventional. The Versa isn't particular about what oil I put in it. I've used Supertech conventional and synthetic to Pennzoil Premium to Castrol Edge. Right now it has Pennzoil Gold synthetic blend. It runs great on all of them.

You live in a state with a mostly warm climate and you apparently drive a lot of highway.
7.5K on whatever 5w30 you want to pay for.
You wanna use syns, then you can find plenty of deals on them.
I'd suggest Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30, since it has a better basestock blend than Mobil 1 5w30 and you'll likely find it recommended for your engine on the Mobil 1 site.
There is also a nice MIR on Mobil 1 ATM. Twelve bucks a jug? Pretty decent and these rebates come to you with no problems, unlike those from Brand S oils.

Also, I'm still learning the difference between 0w30 and 5w30. I know 0w30 is easier for start up but I don't know why it would have more benefit over 5w30.

The 1.6L V4 in the Versa is very hard on oil. Best to change every 3 months/3,000 miles

The 1.6L I4 in the Versa, however, isn't too hard on oil. Can do the 7,500 mile intervals no problem.

If there's a Kmart nearby, they have Smitty's syn blend on sale. A 5qt jug is $8.49, or you can buy the single quart bottles for $1.99 each

For the oil filter, use Wix (or Napa Gold).

Although Wix XP (Napa Platinum) and Fram Ultra are great filters, it really isn't worth spending the extra money on them unless you exceed 10k OCI. However, you can get the FPS filter on eBay by the case at a price that's competitive with lesser filters. The FPS is a reboxed Ultra but without the textured grip and is aimed at shops. Part number starts with FPS and the Fram number. For example, FPS7317

I'd pick your favorite 5W30 and keep it changed per Nissan. I've always liked Castrol EDGE. Castrol EDGE 5W30 is cheap and every store carries it.

Yeah you can't go wrong with any quality 5W30 in your 4 cylinder Nissan.

I like to step it up a notch beyond a typical SN mineral oil, and go for something like a Dexos-1 5w30 as either a full synthetic or semi-synthetic.

Some examples: PP, M1 (vanilla, not EP or HM), Quaker State Ultimate Durability, Edge, SynPower, Magnatec, DuraBlend, Pennzoil Gold, etc

All good choices, so either see what is on sale and buy on price, or get a brand that you have always liked.

You live in hot climate so I'd say stick with 5w30. 0w30 will work too,but its not a necessity in your climate. M1 or Pennzoil Synthetic 5w30 will do you well.

Mobil says that their Advance Fuel Economy meets the warranty requirements of 5w30 (or something pretty close to that). By running it you could see better fuel economy because you drive mainly highway. I didn't see a difference in my short trip stop and go commute. Ran fine (butt/ear dyno).

If he chooses to run it for the AFE benefit and not the low temperature start up benefit then he's got a good reason.
