Reclaimed Oil for push mower.

what I find interesting is my push mower (yard machine) has never had an oil change. it's been 21 years on the same oil and it looks great still. yes looks aren't everything. still runs great. no desire to change it.

Have you had to top it off yet?

Used oil is free fuel. And that is what you do by giving it to the auto parts store, it is mainly used to mix with bunker oil for ships etc. at least that was the case in years past. Used acidic dirty oil is not for lubrication.

Except it tests decent. Still have some tbn left. From what I can find oil ran in daily driver cars has to be ran at least 300hrs before it even gets close to turning acidic.
My reclaim oil is only ran for 90 to 120hrs.
Also its not dirty, after it's sat for a month I can't see any single micron particles under my microscope when i pull a sample. What i can see is a layer of dirt on the bottom of the jug when I pour out the last half quart into the combustion grade oil jug or my log soaking oil trough.

Now price out a jug of full synthetic oil - I like Super Tech - it is $20 for 5 quarts or $4 a quart less than $2 per oil change.

Now think this through - is it worth it to reclaim used oil?

To me no not worth it at all.

Plus I use up oil that I have on hand for my generators so it doesn't get really old.

The best new lawn mower I've seen in probably 20 years is the harbor freight 173cc.
It gets new oil.
The only ones I run reclaim oil in are oil burners.

I think your using the wrong term. As you are not reclaiming the oil. Its just plain old USED MOTOR OIL, period.

I think your using the wrong term. As you are not reclaiming the oil. Its just plain old USED MOTOR OIL, period.

I tried calling it "used motor oil". People assumed that means full of environmental dirt, metal shavings, fuel, coolant, rain water, transmission fluid, grar oil, small bits of trash, grass clippings and everything else that might get thrown, blown or dripped into the oil collection pan.

Why would I worry about re-refining it when it does exactly what I need it to do?
Can a lawnmower that burns or leaks oil tell that its only being given used oil?
Does a lawn mower that still has some of its 10 year old original oil in it care if I top it off with reclaim oil?
Does a chainsaw care if its bar and chain oil is used oil? Mmmm maybe, I dump the reclaim oil and run some fresh oil through it before I put it away.
Does a gate hinge care if I put drops of reclaim oil on it vs fresh oil?
Its definitely the best option for flushing out a gear oil milkshake differential.
