Hey so My transmission was damaged BADDLEY and i found a local shop who is doing a full rebuild and updating the valve body since the 6th gen hondas have engineering defect, a new torque converter is also being installed. An external radiator is added to cool down the liquid nicely.

Whats everybody's opinion on interval change since the car has 102,000 miles on it and I plan on doing two , 10k trips in next 6 months.

Also what type of fluid should I use for intervalS?

Should I use MAx life and lubeguard and call it a day?

Or should I buy some Amsoil Singature and change before trip and leave it in there for long time?

I would like the car to be problem free for another 2 years and 50k miles , I can do most of the small-mid stuff myself.

Car is 2000 Accord SE automatic 4 cylinder. 102k on it.
Good maintenance over all, P1 or K&N filters, mostly Shell Gas, Iridium Plugs , AFe Air filter.

I'm assuming you have the BAXA transmission.
Either of your choices should be fine or Castrol IMV is also an option. The Honda brand ATF is nothing special, IMO.
I used LG red in my BAXA and it was still going good at 109K when I sold it....I believe it helps combat heat breakdown...

Getting 50k out of the transmission is going to have more to do with the quality of the rebuild rather than the fluid change interval

I would be trading it off shortly after getting it back on the road.Any rebuild is a Russian Roulette deal.Best to bail before you find out.

Why would you say that ?

A rebuild by a good transmission shop should be no concern and I'm sure they warrant it . OP says they do the valve body upgrade so this shop must be reputable .

+1
What stchman daid

I just wanted to add that this transmission shop is very reliable

they have a 24k/2year warranty on transmission rebuild. since I did a full rebuild, they going to take care of ANY issues for that period of time. thats atlease 1 year for me

Amsoil Sig it is!

Sounds like they must know what they are doing .
Yes , the Amsoil would be my choice , my 07 Fusion works very well with it .

You might find out if the re-builder added Lubegard to the transmission fluid.

If not, you might consider purchasing Lubegard and adding 1 oz. per quart of transmission fluid.

If not, you might consider purchasing Lubegard..... and adding 1 oz. to each quart of transmission fluid. In addition to other things, Lubegard helps the ATF run cooler, which in turn help the transmission run better and last longer. IMO, its a good, low dollar investment.

Voltmaster, how many miles do you drive a year?

A yearly drain and fill should be sufficient if you can DIY. That's what I am doing in my 97 Civic and 98 Sienna. I use Valvoline Max life in both vehicles.

Regards, JC.

My apparently identical 2000 SE (4 cyl) which I have owned and maintained for 10 years has 167k miles on the original transmission and no problems. It has been running on Maxlife with 30k drain and refills for about half those miles. Before that it was the old Z1 with frequent changes. It also runs a Magnefine filter for the last 50k with one change. It makes at least two 3k cross country trips each year otherwise its a city daily driver.
I dont think you will have much to worry about with your rebuilt transmission and newer ATF. Its the V6 Accords that are much harder on transmissions.

If they used OEM Honda parts, then use Honda DW-1. If they used "generic" parts then I would go with Valvoline Import or other high quality Import ATF.

Thanks for all the input,

I decided to buy Amsoil Signature. I also got a bottle of Lubeguard Transmission Protectant. Adding the Lubeguard to the transmission before test driving it.

I am going to drive the car for a small trip and some canyon driving to test out the transmission. Going to drain the fluid in next 2 weeks when preparing for winter trip.

Current OCI goal is 20k, than switching to max life for 10k than probably selling the car or doing a transmission tune up.

I am going to send the fluid for analysis after reach drain , really interested to see how well these guys do their jobs.
