rebuilt 5.0 motor

alright, im about to start rebuilding a motor with new rings and bearings. its a 5.0 mustang motor. im just wondering what oil you guys recommend for the break in period and than what oil i should use after the break in period. its gonna have moly rings and clevite bearings in it if that makes any difference. thanks for the help

5w30 Havoline dino for the first 5000 miles for break in, then Mobil 1. Are you also putting in new pistons ? How many miles does your 5.0 motor have ?

no new pistons. the motor has 82k on it. we pulled it from a lincoln town car. its a roller block so that is why we are using it. it does not need a rebuild...but since we have the motor out we might as well rebuild it

I had a 1990 LX 5.0 and when I sold it, I had 155,000 miles with zero problems. Since the motor is out, check the rear main seal to see if it is leaking, it is easy to fix. Are you going to race your car ? My LX went 13.12 @ 102 mph with just bolt ons.

ill probably take to the track a few times. its a daily driver. yeah, im rebuilding the entire motor. trickflow cam, ported stock heads, everything is going to be new

Your favoright 10W30 will do just fine. Be sure the follow the cam manufactures suggestions on running in the cam. A bottle of GM E.O.S. works wonders during cam run in.

My last car was Town Car with 5.0.That was the beat engine ever hands down.I used nothing but 10w30 and 10w40 mostly in the hot summer.Put on over 200k miles on it with no major engine issues whatsoever.I almost blew the engine when a quick lube place put in 20w50.All kinds of noise started happening.It stopped when i drained it quickly.DON'T EVER THINK ABOUT 20W50 NO MATTER WHAT ANY ONE TELLS YOU.I now have a 4.6 engine but liked the 5.0 best.Good luck.ALso i used only conventional oil only.
