Reattaching exterior trim

there is a 3m trim adhesive that comes in a tube. you can find it at advance auto (for one). i've used it on many applications and it is quite good. i didn't see it in the links anywhere.

On my wifes 1996 Jeep Cherokee a section of the black rubber-like trim at the bottom of the passenger door is starting to come loose (2 inches wide or so). It looks like it was originally attached with double sticky tape.

Is there a good product available to reattach it? An adhesive that I can squirt behind it? It's only starting to come loose so I'd like to get after it before it becomes severe.

Thanks!

3M makes an automotive double sided sticky tape, just ever-so-slightly foamy, and it works wonders... check your local car parts store.

I used this stuff to "re" badge my Impreza... everyone who has seen it agrees it's the way it should have come from the factory, and it's held up for 3 New England winters so far with not even a hint of a problem.

Every piece of that moulding on my 96 Cherokee has either come loose or fallen off in the past. I have tried many things, even bought a replacement strip from Jeep. It has already got adhesive on the back, you just peel and stick, and it has stayed put for a year now. BUT that small piece cost something like $25. The substance I found that works so far is sitting in the junk box in the cargo area right now. This afternoon, I'll see what it actually is and post it here. It's working really good so far.

So I lied, and it's much later than the other afternoon. Anyway, the stuff I have is made by Permatex and comes in a tube for about $5. It comes out of the tube white, but dries clear. So far it's sticking that trim fine.

the key is surface prep. Nothing sticks to dirty sheetmetal (or plastic). I used simple clear silicone caulk back in the 80s with excellent results.

Clean both surfaces with isopropyl alcohol before attaching the tape or adhesive.
