I think gear oil might be my least favorite automotive chemical next to coolant. I hate the having to do anything with it at all. So clearly it's worth it to install some HPL that I probably will not have to change in the remaining life of my 2011 GX460.

That said, Toyota provided drain and fill plugs to make the procedure as easy as can be. It's almost as if they intend you to service the fluids!

I'll tackle the front and t-case soon.

The HPL Differential Life definitely has a lot less sulphur smell to it. What came out (presumably Toyota OEM?) was much nastier. 75w90 HPL for the win!

I did similar research but still went with off the shelf Mobil 1 and Valvoline. Grease things up while you are down there and prepare a little to remove the skid plates, all the zerks are in the same spots. Look for anything pinkish that might indicate the typical coolant valley leak. Also, inspect you radiator good, its going on 14 years and near EOL in my opinion. I went with an aluminum unit. Good luck.

Ha, if you only knew. Since I bought thing thing just under two years ago, I've done:
-- Valley cover plate--twice (rolled o-ring on crossover tube)
-- Water pump and t-stat (since I was in there)
-- Radiator (oem failed at the typical end tank crimp location just above petcock)-- TIG welded CSR (100% aluminum) went in
-- Trans fluid (Idemitsu 100% syn)
-- secondary air pump inlet filter mod

Not to mention a LOT of quality time with the needle scaler and some 7018 rods on the rustier parts of the chassis.

What did you do for the t-case? Did you spring for the unicorn fairy dust Toyota lube? Honestly, it seems preposterous to me that people think there's nothing else than can work as well or better than the Toyota stuff for a lot less $$.

Same 75w90, the internet is full of the same debate and I came to the general consensus. I have about 20k on current fluids, now 83k and everything works fine. I will do them all again at 100k and perhaps consider the “lifetime” HPL as you did.

I recently used Redline MT-LV 70/75w in t case. I posted a VOA of MT-LV a while back (1/24/23). Very similar to Toyota unicorn tears and strong ad pack compared to Ravenol 75w, another option.

I used Motul Gear 300 75w90 gl5 in front and rear diffs at 15,xxx. Just posted the rear diff Motul UOA in the gear oil uoa thread. I should receive the front diff UOA from Cat lab tomorrow…fingers crossed.

Valvoline full syn gl5 is in diffs now till at least 100k. 63k on GX now.

Put about 56k miles on my v8 4runner with the MT-LV in the t-case. No issues.
