Nothing at all wrong with blowing an air filter clean, if you do it right. People born and raised in US cities after 1970 seem to think its a cardinal sin... and to be fair to them there's not much reason to do it instead of go down to the corner Autozone and buy a new filter every few years. But those of us who grew up with farm equipment that required DAILY air filter service got very used to using a low-velocity compressed air nozzle to back-blow paper air filters in between changes.
