In a Wal*Mart oil aisle all weights, both new and old, of Havoline dino were priced at $2.16/qt., while three aisles away on an endcap the exact same varieties were priced at $2.56/qt.!

I looked for one of those price check thingies so I could further amuse myself, but none could be found.

At my local Wal Mart in Ohio, the price of deposit shield just went to $11.50 for the 5 quart jug. Are they kidding? This makes it the most expensive dino oil at WalMart. Time for me to switch brands.

This is exactly what I was concerned that was gonna happen. I also buy my oil in Ohio, but I haven't bought any in a while so I haven't seen the price of the new stuff yet where I buy my oil. I have to buy some this weekend though.

I just purchased 4 qts of the new stuff at Wally World and it was on the shelf with the old stuff and all of it was priced the same.....$2.18

If I were willing to pay $2/quart, may as well get the GTX or Pennzoil or Mobil or Motorcraft or, well you get the idea.

No, I don't really get what you're saying. If I'm spending $2 a qt, why would I want to get one of those inferior oils?

...and you have proof that Castrol GTX, Pennzoil, Mobil, or Motorcraft is "inferior" to Havoline?

Do you have proof that these oils are superior to the Havoline as you've insinuated?

I'd be willing to say they're all great oils. My comment only indicates that at 2 bucks a quart, we have a larger selection to choose from. I wasn't commenting on which is "better."

I decided to try 5w-20 DS and WalMart only has it in 10w-40, never had 5w-20. AAP had it for $2.79 and AZ for $2.29 but no 5w-20/30. I did not want to wait or shop araound andy more, so I grabbed the $2.79 AAP 5w-20. Not really an attractive price compared to other oils, but I wanted to use Havoline so I did not have to change my filter to do this change, which was really just for the lower visc.

I just visited my local Wally World last night. Havoline, both new and old, were 2.16/qt or 9.87/5qt jug. Castrol GTX was 9.97/5qt jug. The Castrol was featured on the end cap, so this may be a cheaper than usual price. But at only .10 difference per 5qt jug, you can choose either with confidence. JMHO.

For those of you who kept muttering about the "New" $2.69 MSRP and would never quote the "old" MSRP... (I suspect it was at least $2.39).

Fred's Dollar Stores Real World Prices "Old" 10W-30 $1.99 and "New Deposit Shield" 5W-30 $2.09. At least at Fred's there was a $0.10 increase

Just left Fred's in my erea. They had the "old" Havoline in all weights for $1.98 a qt. The new "DepositShield" was on another shelf for $2.69 a qt.
Maybe there was something to the "muttering" about the price. 71cents difference in price and 1/2 the moly. What a deal!
