I want to re-evaluate my OCI due to a recently discovered head gasket leak on the left side of my 02 4.3 manual sierra. The truck has 127k miles and drives perfectly. Minus the headgasket there are no other problems with the truck.

I usually use either Chevron Supreme 5-30 or Valvoline 5w30 conventional engine oils. I removed the valve covers and LIM about 3k ago and the engine was clean as a whistle. I do not think that coolant is leaking into the oil. I drive the truck 50/50 highway and city. I live off a freeway that goes up a pretty big hill that forces me into 4th gear at 70-80 mph and to hit 3.5-4 RPMS. I use Supertech or AcDelco filters and am happy with them. Occasionally I like to drive the car like a race car and red line it and abuse it a little but not always. Usually I drive pretty conservative at 70 mph on freeway.

Please toss me any ideas I want to stick with Valvoline and Chevron oils. I am also not interested in Synthetic.

Why not just fix the head gasket? I would do both sides while you have the top of the engine off.

I have never done a head gasket before, I think I lack the tools to do it.

Sounds like you will have to take it somewhere
