Rant: Used Flashlight and Amazon

Well it happened to me. Did some research and decided to order A new flashlight to use while working in my shop. Opened the box and immediately said that isn't red like in the pictures they must of made A finish on them to hide usage, nope. It was dirty and greasy and some cuts and no charging cable ***. For whatever reason I got sent A used and broken light. Found Amazon's customer service and called. Of course couldn't hardly understand the woman, what did you say about 10 times. Anyway getting another one Monday and since I cannot print A label I will need to track down somewhere that ships UPS and can print the label. Really pisse$ me off.

looks like you got someone's "return". I have had packages that appear to be returned as well, but the product was not used that I could tell.

I prefer buying straight from the manufacturer website whenever possible. Lower chances of issues usually. Good luck sorting it all.
 
Don't call Amazon... use their online chat or take care of yourself on the website. Also, they'll print and mail you a label for $1.
Amazon will send you a QR code and the UPS store will scan it . You don't even have to box up the item . If you don't have UPS store nearby you'll have to go old school .
 
This is happening more and more often. There are supposed to be processes that prevent this but I think Amazon employees are under too much pressure and have to take shortcuts to meet their quotas. Return fraud is probably higher too as cost of living increases. At least Amazon makes returns easy, but it's still an unnecessary waste of time.

Was it shipped from Amazon or a third party? I have never had a problem with stuff shipped from Amazon.

I don't even think the returned merchandise goes back into their warehouses.

Get on the website and fill out the return info.
Items can be returned to almost any Kohls, Staples, or Whole Foods with a barcode downloaded to your phone.
Within a couple of hours, charges are reversed. Very easy.

Did that a month ago - the start of the process of my item (that was obviously a return before I got it) and dropping off at Whole Foods was quick. Charges reversed not so much. It reached their return center 2-3 days after WF got it, then the expected date for the refund kept changing. A couple of days ago I had an alert that it was apparently lost, then it was found again and waiting some more. Just now I see that they can't process the refund because the item is "stuck in processing" but customer service will be very glad to help. I need my beauty sleep so I'm not starting the chat tonight but I will be chatting with them tomorrow. Normally I'm impressed with Amazon's return process but, tonight, not so much...
 
Sold by and fulfilled by Amazon are very easy to return in case they made error or something went wrong during shipping.
Sold and shipped by third party, you'll have to deal with the seller.
 
I'll gladly say their return policy is WAY too lenient. Regardless of the time involved every returned item should be examined and not just assumed returned for whatever reason the original buyer provided. Then tons of items get thrown back onto the shelf, then to the next buyer and this sort of thing happens repeatedly. Also a joke that the original buyer would have the nerve to send a used/damaged item back. This sort of thing ends up costing the rest of us that try doing things the decent way.
 
I got a countersink bit last week that was very obviously used. Still had metal shavings plus the shank torn up from slipping in a chuck.

Amazon wanted to CHARGE me $7.99 to return it. Even after I chatted with them.

No thanks! I disputed the charge.
 
Are you invested in a particular battery line?
For example, this weekend Harbor Freight had an excellent sale, I'm starting to buy an assortment of Bauer tools, and their LED flip batteries are extremely cheap. Dewalt, Ryobi have the similar lights at a higher price, Milwaukee if you want the Cadillac version.
 
I've returned stuff form Amazon before and never had to speak to a human because I do everything online. It's never cost me a nickel to return anything. Just last week I returned a $350, all steel, 3 ton floor jack that made cracking noises when I used it to lift a car. Amazon sent me a label and UPS picked it up from my front porch. Excluding the time I spent reboxing it, it took me less than 3 or 4 minutes to initiate the return, and within a couple of hours of UPS picking it up I had the money back on my credit card.
