Our 2001 Ranger 3.0 developed a misfire on startup one morning. Check engine light was flashing, code thrown was misfire, cylinder 3. I have changed all the fluids since picking this truck up last winter, tuneup was next. I changed the plugs, and was surprised to see the gap on the old plugs was nearly twice the new ones (gapped at .044). Truck still had miss, finally found injector wire broken where it exits harness loom. Runs great now, but I was amazed the old plugs were firing across such a huge gap, and it was running fine with them.

Good to hear you fixed it, but I'd still take a very close look at the coil, they like to crack and arc
Glad you figured it out. Had the wiring been messed with before, or did this issue just show up on its own?
The wire was chafed where it exits loom, I figured injector was bad, found bad wire when I went to unplug injector. Replacement plug was inexpensive.
