I was standing next to my car while it was running for the first time in a while and I noticed it was a bit quiet. I listened for a couple of seconds and realized that a valve tick my car has had since I bought it 9 years ago was not present. I do know it was still there after a timing belt change approximately 15k miles ago. It was there at around 190k when I did my last oil change. I am wondering if the tick is gone due to cleaning from this last oil change with Castrol Edge, or due to putting in Quakerstate Defy. The Defy has only about 200 miles on it so I assume it was gone before then.
Which of these two do you think contributed more to the valve tick disappearance?
My previous oil change regimen was 80% Pennzoil conventional changed every 3-5k miles or whatever was on sale at autozone. Still had quite a bit of varnish when the valve cover was off but no noticeable black spots or sludgy looking deposits.
