Rams with 4.7

I have owned a few and never had issues but never took one past 100k. In a Dakota 5 speed manual they are fun as heck. In a full size Ram it was a tepid experience. I would rather have an older 5.2 or 5.9 for the long term.

They're not like an old LA / Magnum, a 2v modular or SBC. Those engines you can mistreat, neglect and they'll just keep on keeping on.

4.7s , especiallly the HO ones make pretty good power for their era, IMO. But they can NOT be overheated. Which is a problem when they have plastic water pump impellers that fall off.

Once they overheat, it's game over. The heads will crack, they will drop valve seats or they will blow head gaskets. If you can keep one from overheating, they'll run a very good long time.

I’ve had two 4.7 engines. Did well with moderate towing. MPG wasn’t great. One ran on only QS conventional and the other only M1. Both were plenty reliable.

In fact I had more issues with a single 5.7L than I ever had both 4.7L combined.
