Depends on how you look at it:
Sales Listing
For May they did outsell Chevy. For the year so far no.

They are still junk though, as is all that Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep makes. You can save the "My Mopar is great" stuff - the outliers do not a pattern make.

Pickup Truck sales numbers are fleet and commercial mostly. Obviously consumer demand plays it part.

Smart commercial and fleet sales go off best deal offered in parallel to a brand preference. Fleets are buying the entry trucks not the high priced optioned out ones.

I guess some people are anti-new car on here because they don't either want the payments-or simply cannot afford a new car-thus they feel compelled to make posts such as this.

Two things dude-Many on here can afford and enjoy new vehicles. And we all know BITOG is where old cars come to die.

Right now I have 60 grand worth of cars sitting in my garage-and we enjoy them. I do not intend to die and leave my kids all my money.

I lean heavily toward Chevy, but not outside of reason - at least not when it comes to other persons' preference. But as to Ford's "best selling truck for 30 some-odd years straight", I gotta ask why they keep selling more of them? There's only so many to be sold, and I dare say pickup trucks are owned longer per person than cars. So does Ford have a large portion of people that just buy one every so-many years just because? It's possible the idea of being best seller for decades continuously doesn't speak to durability - it speaks to people that will but a new one anyway.

The newest Dodge truck I've had much to do with was an '09 2500 - 5.7 hemi/6 speed auto, 4x4, single cab/longbed, base work truck trim, and 4.10 gears. Shaky, rough, and with any kind of loaded trailer that poor hemi would turn 4 grand up hills. I'd never own a truck anything like that. A friend had a late 90's 1/2 ton 4x4, ext. cab shortbed, 360 auto, and it was surprising how much the extended cab and chassis flexed over washboards, potholes, etc. - the truck just didn't feel stout. I've seen a few Dakotas hold up to exceptional abuse and a few others I've really liked, but Dodge's full-size trucks haven't left a good impression with me.

The only redeeming quality of the RAM was the CTD.
Overall style, performance, and quality goes to Ford FTW.
Bought the Superduty,(again, my second) no regrets.

BTW, the dealer did tell me that RAM was getting an Allison behind the CTD for 18.

as I said in my post a minute ago I am not a fanboy of any manufacturer but I am a huge Cummins fan and also a big fan of the 7.3 liter powerstroke, I'm very familiar with both I love my 6.7 mega cab I sold but my dad's 4 door F350 Dually 6.4 was a lot nicer than my 2008 Ram. I would love a fummins

#1 - That was 2014, this is 2017 (and it doesn't apply)
#2 - Flex isn't bad - bridges flex, skyscrapers flex, etc. and they are quite sturdy.
#3 - Watch an 18 wheeler take off. They have lots of frame flex and seem to go millions of miles without issues.

Flex no matter what the vehicle is a dumb metric. Looks cool but no relation to reality.

I recently was in the market for a 1-ton pickup. I owned a Dodge dually about 20 years ago, I'm well aware of what they were then, and what they are now. I had reservations about all three makes. I also worked as a Master Tech, and have many friends and former colleagues who still work on consumer vehicles for a living. So I took my own experience and their current advice into account.

I inspected and test drove all three makes extensively. The GM and Ford are essentially new designs for '17, whereas the Ram is pretty much the same for several years now.

After weighing the options, and being offered similar deals on all three, I preferred and chose the Ram 3500 with HO Cummins and Aisin transmission. So far it tows my 43' toy hauler with ease and in great comfort.

Just an FYI, the big R A M on the front grill and tailgate, is an optional trim level. I preferred the more traditional look.

The new GM and Ford both are rated for more Torque than the Cummins, but in a recent unbiased test on the same dyno on the same day, the Ram put the most torque to the ground.

The Ram also got the best fuel economy of the three, when they were towing the exact same load, on the same road, under the same conditions.

Absolutely and it may surprise you many don't do payments........
I never understood beating people up because they work hard to buy something or spend their money how they see fit.

Thanks, I'll look into it- if it keeps the rust away its a bargain!

Of course I have had both in Fords and I did not find the 6.2L a gas hog in normal driving.
I did hear horror stories on the Ram 6.4L and then I hear how fuel efficient they are???????
But a 6.4 gets you in a nice truck at a great price point.

I had rust issues in 3 years on a 2013 Honda Sport with alloy wheel deterioration as well.
Plus bad thin paint. In the 80's the east coast was flooded with rust treatment dealers like Rusty Jones etc.
I assume all of those places are long gone......
What do you rustproof with if I may ask? Thanks

I'm most familiar with the 5.7L Hemi, in the Ram 1500, from 08 to present. They're good work trucks, comfortable and reliable.

I rustproofed a 16 Ram [for a friend], an 08 Liberty, and a 16 Wrangler, mine. I used this based on Trav's recommendation, https://www.theruststore.com/Cortec-VpCI-368-P82C28.aspx it works quite well, but it's not cheap.

The RAM badging is gaudy. No thanks.

Truck-wise, I like them. Ive driven plenty of 3/4 ton fords, but I found the 2500 ram crew cab dodge to be a step up in all accounts interior-wise. That does not say how it will work.

Id love a CTD ram, especially if its more cost effective than the others.

Its incredible what full size pickups and SUVs are costing these days...

Agreed! I could do without the cheesy badging of the Ram. Reminds me of a Glenfield rifle...

I could write a check for a new truck and would never do it. Not worth it.

Would you be inclined to buy any new car?

I agree, the Cummins diesel is the only thing I like about their whole lineup.
