I understand Ram has put Chevy in third place outselling the Silverado.
I think that it is all about pricing.
Ford and Chevy are getting very hefty with the prices and cheap on the rebates.
So I think penny pinchers are flocking to Ram instead.
My local dealer had a F250 for sale at $86K the other day...................
Yikes.............

RAM needs to be everything possible to rev up sales. I have always been leary of Dodge quality (personally speaking) but if you need a starter work truck you need cheap and something that can meet the needs. If I was starting a landscaping business I would buy a RAM until I can gain capital for something a little better but Ford and Chevy's prices are wild when you start adding options etc.

I have this visceral distrust of Ram trucks. I have never owned one, have rarely ridden in one and don't know a whole lot about them beyond that. If I was going to buy a full size truck I think I'd look at Ford first, smaller truck probably Toyota, although the new Nissan full size intrigues me.

I figure if FCA is giving them away, that's great but the resale value will likely suffer too, so it'll be a wash on the back-end.

The money people spend on trucks just amazes me.

I'd take a Ram over the Ford and Chevy offerings any day. I've been a Ford lover since I first became interested in cars/trucks as a child back in the 60's. But time has changed things for me.

I have no issue with that. Here in MD Ram-Dodge name is mud. Only the farmers brag them up because they get great deals.
I have had three big Fords in the last 9 years- I love their trucks but I just get around- truck-car slut.... lol
I don't know if it is true but a guy on newcars.com said for $3K you can get a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty on a Ram.
I do hope Ram fixed the rust issues- of course they give a 5 year/100K rust through but that ain't so special........
I'd buy a 3500 with the CTD and save $15K or so. I could live with that.

In the HD gas segment I think Ram has by far and away the best HD gas engine in the 6.4 Hemi. Designed from the ground up to be a heavy haul gas engine. All the diesel emissions [censored] has soured me to new diesels. If I was going to buy a 2500/3500 gas truck tomorrow it'd be a Ram with the 6.4, broader torque than the Ford 6.2 OHC engine, more HP/Tq than the dated 6.0 in the Chevrolet with better fuel economy than either of the competitive options. At home in Michigan the GM offerings fare by far the worst for rust with Ram/Ford tied, but everything is pretty well junk by 10yrs if it's used year round.

I hear ya. Living in NY I see a lot of rusted vehicles. Ford, Chevy, Ram and the imports. My neighbor had an 07 Nissan Armada, that rusted out terribly. My friends 08 Expedition isn't holding up well either, and at 112k miles is developing an engine knock.

I rustproof my vehicles so it isn't that much of a concern to me. After seeing some of the Ford and Toyota rust buckets, I'd say it happens across all brands. In my opinion for the money Ram offers a lot more value than the others. The Hemi and ZF 8 speed are a nice combo too. The only thing that I don't like is the AT gear selector dial, but I'd be able to live with it.

Agreed Demarpaint
The CTD interested me because I see killer deals on them here. ( Great Deals)
Of course I have had both in Fords and I did not find the 6.2L a gas hog in normal driving.
I did hear horror stories on the Ram 6.4L and then I hear how fuel efficient they are???????
But a 6.4 gets you in a nice truck at a great price point.

I had rust issues in 3 years on a 2013 Honda Sport with alloy wheel deterioration as well.
Plus bad thin paint. In the 80's the east coast was flooded with rust treatment dealers like Rusty Jones etc.
I assume all of those places are long gone......
What do you rustproof with if I may ask? Thanks

Im not a fan boy of any brand, my dd is a 96 ram 21 years old and besides a few shocks a few rubber hoses and small maint its its rock solid. I love its simplicity and drive it by choice, I can afford much nicer.... I built the transmission because of my own stupidity ( quick disconnect line blew off after radiator repair) the line wasn't fully seated I built the transmission for Overkill just so I can abuse the truck it lost all the fluid and I don't even know if damage was done I just wanted reliability.

I had a 2016 F150 and a 2016 Ram as rentals back to back, the F150 had the 5.0 and the Ram had the 5.7 Hemi. Really liked them both. The F150 sounded cooler. Ram rode a bit nicer (coils in the back) and seemed a little less road noisy. Both were very comfortable to drive. Would probably take the Ram, but for corporation ethics reasons.

Agreed, how do they fare when you add them together? They're the same truck other then some chrome and a grill

Honestly, tough to go too wrong with any of the choices on the market today.

When I shopped last summer, I could get a Ram for about $2500 less than an F150 with similar equipment (feature wise - XLT 302a package trim level/bighorn). However, I was looking at the 2.7 V6 versus the 5.7, and after factoring in fuel mileage, the 5.7 was going to drink a lot more gas. There is a significant gap in fuel economy between the two. (For the 2016s. the rams are at 15.4 mpg with the 5.7 vs 18.4 with the 2.7. I'm averaging 19 MPG in mixed driving with my 2.7).

Go drive them all. Decide what you like... tough to go wrong.

The article I read still says GM leads when adding in both the Silverado/Sierra together.

Alright, it isn’t quite that dramatic. General Motors’ truck offerings aren’t exclusive to the Silverado and the automaker still outsold Fiat Chrysler when factoring in pickup deliveries from its GMC division.

I'm most familiar with the 5.7L Hemi, in the Ram 1500, from 08 to present. They're good work trucks, comfortable and reliable.

I rustproofed a 16 Ram [for a friend], an 08 Liberty, and a 16 Wrangler, mine. I used this based on Trav's recommendation, https://www.theruststore.com/Cortec-VpCI-368-P82C28.aspx it works quite well, but it's not cheap.

I traded in my 2015 F350 6.7L for a new 2017 Ram 3500 6.7L. I just like everything about the Ram better.

Drove a RAM, drove a Ford.
The only redeeming quality of the RAM was the CTD.
Overall style, performance, and quality goes to Ford FTW.
Bought the Superduty,(again, my second) no regrets.

BTW, the dealer did tell me that RAM was getting an Allison behind the CTD for 18.

I'd say Ram is the leader styling wise. The GM and Ford trucks are so ugly. I used to love Ford styling above all the others up until around 2008.
