A (relatively) honest politician from an era when we had civil discourse. He had a solid resume for the job and started a political dynasty. I'll miss him... and his share of the time he served.

The last President we're going to have from "The Greatest Generation". It feels like all the adults have left the room.

R.I.P. President George H.W. Bush, a good man and model public servant,.... he wanted a kinder, gentler America.

I always admired him. Read the book "Fly Boys" and the small part about his service in WWII and you'll know and appreciate him even more. He really was a national treasure. May God comfort his family and friends as they celebrate his life.

After First Lady Barbara Bush passed … I organized a small group of family/friends to visit his Library at Texas A&M …told the younger and first timers (some of us had been) to pay attention to what kind of amazing resume he had … and also … how much would spell out his love of country and family …

Accepted to Yale, he deferred to join the Navy (to whom he had to lie about his age, he was 17, too young to enlist) and served in combat as a TBM Avenger pilot. He was hit by enemy fire, and shot down, but managed fly on and to hit the target even after his airplane had been hit. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war ended, at Yale, he played baseball, and had a lifelong affinity for both the sport of baseball and naval aviation.

His hand-written letter to his Presidential successor is the epitome of class, and has gone viral. Google it. Read it. You'll understand him better.

A great man and humble servant. When I retired from the Navy a few years ago, I asked his staff for a Presidential Certificate, as he was Commander in Chief when I flew my first combat mission, and while I still need to frame it and hang it up in my study, that one bit of paper means a great deal to me.

A friend sent me this photo this afternoon, from June, 1948, of a young Yale first baseman meeting the great Babe Ruth.

GHWB meets Babe Ruth.webp

President Bush and my Dad were in the Yale Class of 1948. Both ROTC.
Different backgrounds; my Dad was the son of very poor immigrants from Ukraine.
Bush played baseball; my Dad played on the football team.

A decent man who served his country proudly in World War Two. Someone who excelled wherever he was whether in the Navy, business, sports or public service.

Anyone who is married to the same woman for 73 years is truly an example of dedication.
