Quick Lube Industry in China

Hello -

I've been assigned a project for an international business class to research the quick lube industry in China. However, I'm able to find very little information online regarding this industry, apart from dated press releases announcing VIOC and Jiffy Lube joint-venture launches.

Does anyone have any information on the current state of the quick-lube industry in China, or know of anyone I could contact to gain insights on this market?

From my trip back to China last year, I can say that most of the oil change is done by individual mechanics in auto repair shop (mom and pop) or dealership.

I don't think quick lube exist over there.

My advice is to do some leg work on it. Hint you are paying the big bucks to goto school and be taking this class.

Why don't you talk to a research librarian at your university, you also might want to contact the US national quick lube association as well as various US based aftermarket associations, they might be able to steer you in the right direction.

Now there's an interesting trend in markets like Russia/China where counterfeit products are rampant, which is that its pretty common for people to bring their own supplies, and more or less just pay for the installation.

The aftermarket in china is a pretty hairy place, given that they don't have the same safety/quality standards that we have in the west to begin with, and then you have the problem of counterfeit/salvage parts **everywhere**, ranging from random "white box" counterfeits all the way to "authentic" OEM packaging and markings.

I'll bet a quart of pork fried rice, that there is a **big market** for straight SA/SB grade oil in china.

My aunt once caught the Chinese Walmart trying to sell lower quality pear from one region as the premium pear from another. The staff deny the accusation until my aunt pointed out the origin label ON THE BOX.

Middle class and rich consumers in China do not buy Chinese made products (i.e. baby formula) of Chinese origin themselves. If you think the stuff they export to US re junk, wait till you see what their lower income folks are using, that their better off folks refuses to use.
