I am currently using Amsoil 5w30 (ASL). I am thinking about using Series 2000 Synthetic 0w30 for my next oil change. I would like to hear from Series 2000 Synthetic 0w30 users about the concerns I have for switching to lower grade oil:

1. Will there be an improvement in gas mileage? 2. What about acceleration? (from street start)
3. engine noise level?
Btw, the recommended oil grade for my car is 10w30. Thanks in advance.

You may or may not see an increase in mpg.
If you are keeping accurate records now, you would be more likely to see one- usually in the 2-3% area, sometimes (reportedly) more.

You are probably not going to have to worry about getting whiplash when you take off from a street start.

I use it in my cars, and have since it became available.

By all means, go with the 0W-30. I have used it for the last 50K miles. My Civic is noticeably peppier and my average gas mileage has increased as well. This oil can be used in any engine that calls for a 5-30 or 10-30. Notice how fast the oil pressure builds as you start the engine.....almost instant protection!

I'm running it in my GM 5.3L. I noticed about a 1/2 mpg increase when first put in, but we're on winter fuel now so it's been lost.
I just had a UOA done at 6100 mi. and it looked very good. I don't know how to paste a link to it, but it can easily be found in the OUA forum.
I'd say use it without reservation.

With Amsoil 0W-30, my 2000 F-150, 4.6 averages about 16 mpg., which is about what it got with Motorcraft 10w30, which is what I used in the first 30K.

acelink,

I used the Amsoil S2000 0w30 for two OCIs before switching to the Amsoil 5w30 (ASL).

1. I got better mileage on the highway with the 0w30 compared to the 5w30,
I think depending on the vehicle you drive and your driving habits you may or may not see a difference in gas mileage.

2. I thought the acceleration was the same.

3. Engine noise level is the same.

My oil consumption with the 0w30 was less then with the 5w30.
I had more wear with the 0w30 then with the 5w30, I plan to go back to using the Amsoil 0w30 after I have done some UOAs with other oils.

The 0w30 will not harm a thing, use with confidence. Its one of the best oils they make, if not the best.

I am using in my 1992 Chevy 4X4 that is use to plow snow all winter. A very good friend has my old 1996 Chevy ext cab pickup. I sold it to him in 2000 (got a new GMC) and I used 0w30 in from the day I got it. Was less then 100 miles on truck when I switched over. He still has the truck with nearly 150,000 miles and still using the 0W-30. He has a service station business and has uses the truck for snow plowing, servicing vehicles (tow and jump starts) etc.

Regarding milage I was using it in my '04 Acura TL.
I decided for grins to try RedLine 5W-20 as it meets
the Honda/Acura spec. The engine sounds the same
and performs the same. However the milage has gone
down about 2mpg in city driving.
I am hoping Amsoil comes out with 0W-20. If not
after I run thru this RedLine I'm back to the s2k
0w-30.

I've been using the 0W30 (TSO)in my 1999 Grand Prix GTP for over two years. I change it once/year or about every 11,000 miles. About 1/3 quart is missing at the end of each year.
I don't think you'll see any fuel mileage improvement switching from 5W30 to 0W30. I didn't. But extreme cold weather starting is even quicker with the 0W30. At 0 degrees F, it starts instantaneously with no measureable cranking time.

i have been using amsoil for years. Been using 0-30 for the last 6 months, my car feels smoother and happier. She tells me she happy, I know it sounds crazy, but her and I just have great bond

Yes, there has been a formulation change in the S2K 0W-30. IIRC, Pablo has mentioned that the basestock will be blended differently to prevent as much oxidative thickening. With the old formulation, once users push the oil much beyond 7,500 miles and depending on the engine, thickening could be quite a problem.

Plus, I think the new formulation will be SM and GF-4....right, Pablo?

Ill try series 2000 next in my 2002 tacoma V6. Ive got series 3K in there now with no change in gas mileage.

I honestly don't see how you can get a better oil thant the 3000 you have but my Tacoma thrived on lighter 30 wts such as mobile 1 and Motorcraft oils. The oil temp is coolant controlled in that engine.

The TSO/ASL/ATM products are all in the mid-10cst range...

They are. Correct. All you have to do is look at the MSDS and that will show you the change in viscosity. All are mid to low 10cSt. What is still NOT clear is whether they went back to increased Ca and no Mg or not.

*Synergn is excellent oil. I was watching some drag boat racing and many of them all used Synergyn. Former Amsoil chemist works for them.
