Currently there is a sale on for Castrol Edge Titanium here in Australia at Repco stores.

5L 5W-30 $29 (normally about $79)
5L 5W-40 $29 (normally about $85)

I've searched on google and on these forums and I find conflicting information about what group this oil is, some information says its group 3 while other says its group 4.

I might pick up a few bottles at this price if its not group 3 for a change from my Penrite 10 Tenths racing oil (group 4-5 blend) that's about $69 for 5L.

Thanks for any info.

When in doubt, mostly group 3, since PAO bases are getting lowered in every brand for cost reasons, since group IIIs are almost as good performer as IV, for average usage.

I've wondered the same about this EDGE EP FST (what it's called here).

I don't really know, I'd think Grp III but the stuff is crazy shear stable which makes me wonder.

Fantastic oil whatever it is.

Very true, just curious.

It would be impossible for us to know, since the large companies like Castrol, Mobil, SOPUS all keep most of this information confidential.

I am sure it's mostly all Group III+ with some other carriers mixed in.

That being said the highly refined Group III oils are top performers.

Exactly.

At that price I'd buy as much as my wallet or credit card would allow. That's more than 50% which us better than 2 for one which in my world means buy it all.

Slightly off-topic,but since the op was asking about pao amount in Edge, does the new 0W40 "German Edge" have a pao base stock like the old GC,or is it a grp III? I'm sure this has been asked,so my apologies in advance :^) I'm thinking about giving it a go,since Walmart no longer carries 10W40 Edge.

Looking at the pour point of -60 °C, certainly seems to point to PAO. Could be wrong but I don't believe a group iii oil can post those numbers.

Is the German Edge 0W40 "better" than the US Edge 10W40 (better baste stocks, add pack, viscosity retention, etc)?
