Okay, maybe the AC/Heating guys can help me here...

A family member gave us this couple year old Bryant AC unit because they found that they needed a bigger one for their home. I have everything needed to install it....when I bought this house, the old owners took the AC with them...I've been told this is a good one, but I will flat out admit I know nothing about AC units...yet.

It is a 552an024-E Bryant unit that uses Puron. I planned to install it a few years ago, but had to hunt a few parts down for it (with family help) Wondering with a few questions about it...

1-Info on the model? No luck finding much of use....

2-Will it sitting for a few years hurt it? (will need recharge, of course) It has been covered and is clean.

3- Will it be fine for a 1000 Sq home? Came off of a 1400 one, was a bit weak for that, granted it was two stories....

Hoping I can use it and not have to scrap it....

(Forgot to add I think it is a Quantum Plus)

Does you have the vertical flow or convertible air handler too or do you just have the outside compressor/condensing unit? You pretty much have to be a pro to install this stuff and have some specialized brazing and refrigerant recovery equipment vacuum equipment. The tag on the condenser should tell you the BTU/h of the unit. IIRC 12,000btu/h = one ton of cooling.

Ive learned a little about AC the past 2 months studying up on the subject but I still got ripped off 6000 bucks having a new 4 ton Rheem/Ruud "puron" (which is just r410A) 14 seer split system installed in my FT Myers FL condo.

PS: Do you have forced hot air heat now? I cant imagine someone taking an installed ac system with them! You aren't talking wall units are you?

Hope the unit was sealed from the atmosphere-or the refrigeration oil will be ruined from moisture in the air. You'll need a fused external disconnect, line set, A-coil (or evaporator to match your furnace plenum), & an expansion valve/device. Still talking a few $$$.

24 is sounding like a two tonner 12 seer . I would just craigslist it. You can get a whole new 2 ton contractor grade matched package for $1800-

Not exactly....was covered in the garage. I am figuring it will need some oil....

Have everything but the A coil to match.

Not wall units. Looking at my furance now I can tell and ac unit was attached to it not long ago.

Whether it was taken or stolen, I do not know.....

yeah its a 2 ton unit, we install used ac units all the time for a house flipper that buys them somewhere, we do inspect them for any visual damages or missing wires and stuff but believe or not we rarely run into problems, they fire right up. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you know what youre doing. Gotta make sure the refrigerant charge is good when you turn it on, some guys don't pump them down, some just close the valves and blow the rest .

Nah, planning to have someone who knows what they are doing put it in for me...should be interesting there.

Just wish I knew more about the unit....
