Question on recycling oil...

I had my oil pan in a corner of the driveway a couple days before I dumped it into a jug. I noticed a few leaves had fallen into it so I picked them out. When I dumped it in the jug it looked like a few more leaves I hadn't seen made it into the jug.

I assume this oil is still okay to submit for recycling? Just want to make sure.

I would think so. When you go to pour it into the vat, there is typically a filter that catches big stuff (anything more than 1/8"). I would imagine it gets filtered further by whomever recycles it. The important thing, of course, is not to have coolant mixed in with it. Solids are not hard to separate.

+1 - I recycle mine at AZ and OR and both of them have screens in the opening that would catch anything larger than 1/8" or so.

There was a thing about oil recycling on Motorweek not long ago. Very interesting and it is very much a multistage process.

Big plus to recycling old oil. My city DPW takes it from anyone and its used in a modified burner to heat their large bays in winter.

The oil gets filtered so many times it doesn't matter what foreign debris for the most part is in it except for the fact that it should not include coolant or excessive fuel.
