Question for those who know Amsoil Products well.

For a year I have been running Amsoil's 0-30w Signature Series (SSO)motor oil and I have been very pleased with it. The Amsoil website product guide for my 2003 Honda Odyssey now no longer lists the Signature Series oil for my vehicle. I am not sure why and when I contacted Amsoil Tech services they told me that Honda now recommends lower weight oil for fuel economy. I am not really concerned about why the SSO was removed as a recommended oil for my vehicle.

However, If I change from the SSO over to Amsoil's full synthetic 0w20 what am I losing that the SSO had in it? Are there better base stocks used? It appears the Amsoil full synthetic 0w20 has excellent technical numbers similar to the SSO. So what is the difference between the two...I know Amsoil does not release this type of info but does anyone have a best guess? Also still waiting for Amsoil to make an oil filter again for my vehicle please pass this along to the higher-ups at Amsoil! Thank you.

IMHO the SSO 0w30 is a lot better oil than their 0W-20 and since your 2003 Odyssey recommended a 5w30 I would stay with the SSO. Also IMHO Amsoil should not have changed this recommendation for the Honda's that recommended 5w30 originally.

The additive package in SSO is very stout and the reason why it is guaranteed for most applications for 35K miles instead of the 25K miles like the 0w20.

Use Amsoil with confidence. I have for 8 years now without issue.
If you have a 2003 Ody, use their ATF right now!

AMSOIL Signature Series 0w30 Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:

• Normal Service(3) – Up to 35,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Severe Service(4) – Up to 17,500 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Replace AMSOIL Ea oil filter at the time of oil change up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first (other brands at standard OEM* intervals).
• In all non-gasoline fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain interval.

*OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer
This is cut and paste from Amsoil corp website Looking at the posted used oil analysis of this oil it is pretty much the real deal, no brag just fact! It seems to be one of the trick oils on the market.

Yes, I am using the Amsoil Universal Synthetic ATF on my 2003 Honda Odyssey. I swear by this stuff. I have 172,000 on my original transmission which I am told is way beyond the expected life of their transmissions. Could be other factors plus the Amsoil ATF that has given me this much on the transmission.

Seems like most folks are saying that the SSO is better to some degree over their 0w20 product. Would the 30w in the SSO 0-30w be too thick in the winter? If not than perhaps I should not change even though Amsoil's website no longer recommends the SSO?

0w30 and 0w20 will perform the same at cold temps. Once the motor is warmed up, the 0w20 will perform like a straight 20, and the 0w30 will perform like a straight 30.

I'd tell you to stick with the 0w30.
