I have a 98 SR5 with 181k on the 3.4 V6. I have changed the oil at 10k intervals with Redline and now AMSOIL Signature Series since I bought it at 143k. It seems like the engine really likes th SSO and does not consume one drop in the 10k. Would switching over to a 0W20 be beneficial in achieving any MPG gain in this application? I wonder how this engine would perform with a 0W20 vs the 0W30 SSO.

Thanks Pablo. I was hoping that you or Gary would chime in. Do you think that I can go 15k on this oil in the engine safely with no UOA? I use an EaO 57 filter.

Shouldn't be problem if all else is fine with the engine, but what kind of driving?

75% highway is the pattern with about 3k on it a month

Use a EAO34 (oversized filter). I use that filter on my 3.4L.

With the amount of highway miles you do the oil is always at optimum temps so there is no reason why in this particular application why you couldnt do 15K+ intervals if you wanted to.
Of course a used oil analysis here and there would certainly help you to see how things are going on inside.

Driving 1 mph slower on average will give about the same mpg gains as switching to 0w-20.
Do you have time to watch TV? You could try slowing down by 5 mph, spending a bit more time on the road, less time in front of the TV, saving $25 a month.
