gs300tx:

t'ain't no local Amsoil retailers available, unless you find a non-chain auto parts store that carrys it as a dealer.

I highly recommend you click on "sponsors" at the top of the page and select an Amsoil dealer from one of BITOG's sponsors. Nothing against Don or Gary, but I used Pablo and was quite happy. You might consider becoming a preferred customer and benefit from the preferred customer discount, especially if you have an order of $100 or more or you plan on re-ordering in the future, whether it's ATF, filters, gear lube, or motor oil.

gs300tx well you gotta do what you gotta do. nothing wrong with drain and fills, it just takes longer and costs more $$ to achieve what you want

At 161k miles, a pan drop is a must for pan/magnet cleaning and filter replacement. If you don't want to drop the pan, slap a magnefine or permacool ATF filter on it.

I would not bother with ANY type of flush with this unit. Too expensive. Start a drain/refill regimen, now and at every oil change(3k miles). Don't bother investing in a 1/2 dozen drain/refills over the next 2 months. I just don't see any gained value in a high mileage transmission using a full synthetic, an addiitve cleaning product, multiple weekly drain/refills, or a t-tec flush.

At 161k miles, it could fail tomorrow. At 161k miles, it could last another 161k miles. This depends alot on driving style since maintenance is negligent or unknown.

Don't bother wasting money on a full synthetic. Stick with the cheapest ATF that meets the required specs. Castrol Import, Pennzoil Multivehicle..... would be easy choices here.

At 4 drain/refills a year using ~3 quarts @ $4 a quart, thats ~$50 a year. Flushing with cheapo ATF cost a $100+, and more if you buy the OE ATF, and more if you add a cleaning product before the flush. You'll feel less pain with the least invested if it fails next week.
