Ahh, the age old Toyota Transfer case lube question. I have no idea the differences these days, could it be Limited Slip additive?
I saved a bookmark years ago on Lexus fluids, might be a place to look.

I use Delvac 75w-90 in my 4Runner transfer case and difs. 30k interval for the rear, 45k for transfer and front dif. So many Toyotas with 400k+ miles on neglected drive lines or, at best, generic bulk dealership lube. No way am I paying $50-$60qt for gear lube. Another option if you’re concerned about bronze bushings or brass synchros is the Redline GL4 stuff.

Some people are using Liqui Moly Top Tec MTF 5100 SAE 75W in the toyota transfer case with good results. Amazon sells it for around $13.

So, I just bothered Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc about this topic. I found a bunch of different part numbers for OEM 75W LF Toyota Transfer Gear Oil over the past few months at different dealer and Toyota parts websites. I was picking up some other parts at a local dealership and asked them for the current part number (I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off-Road), but the guy at the counter couldn't find a current part number- all the ones I provided were discontinued. This was about a couple months ago. My research over the past few months led me to the following numbers:

- 08885-81080; Discontinued (Old school can)
- 08885-81081; Discontinued (Plastic bottle)
- 08885-01806; Discontinued- Superseding part number to 08885-81080
- 00279-DGOLF; Superseding part number to 08885-01806

In the early going of my research into this, I looked up the Redline equivalent, which listed the following compatibility:

- Redline 75w MT LV is compatible with OEM 75w Manual Trans LV Gear Oil 08885-03206;
- AND Redline 75w MT LV is compatible OEM 75w Transfer Gear Oil 08885-81080;
- So then OEM 75w Manual Trans LV Gear Oil should be compatible with OEM 75w Transfer Gear Oil…. right?

I didn't love this line of logic, even though technically it looks like the OEM Toyota 75w LV Manual Trans Gear Oil would at least meet the minimum specs of the Transfer Gear Oil. I've not done any UOAs on either of these fluids but I've read anecdotes that the OEM Toyota Transfer Gear Oil has a more robust additive package, so take that with a grain of salt.

Anyway, on Friday, I submitted an inquiry to TMS USA Inc, and they deferred to and contacted the dealer. This morning, the parts manager called me and provided the following info:

- 00279-DGOLF is the part number they use for 75w LF Transfer Gear Oil for the transfer case which best I can tell, is a newer part number.

And because I followed up for the Differential Fluid part numbers:

- 00279-DGOLT is the part number they use for 75w-85 LT Differential Gear Oil (GL-5)

You can find the 00279-DGOLF at TeqSport for about $50 a bottle with the gaskets/washers I think. I bought it and will be using that when I do my transfer case fluid next month (using Amsoil equivalent for front and rear diffs):

Hope that helps!

Yeah it's weird- My guess is that because it's such a new part number, different dealership online parts sites or non dealer-specific sites are listing incorrect specs with incorrect part numbers, more so with the 00279-DGOLF. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to connect the mental dots of the last 5 letters... D-G-O-L-F... Differential Gear Oil LF. But with 00279-DGOLT... what is that T supposed to mean.

Here are a couple links I found for the 00279-DGOLT for the Diffs. The price in the second one is bonkers, hence why most people just go with a trusted aftermarket brand:

https://parts.elmhursttoyota.com/oe...5-differential-gear-oil-lt-1-quart-279dgolt01
https://parts.kendalltoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-diff-gear-oil-left-gl-279dgolt

This one is for the Transfer Case Fluid, but above the "Product Specs" section it lists the info for the 00279-DGOLT, like you have in your post above (GL-5 75W-85):

https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/product/diff-gear-oil-lf-gl-5-75w-85-00279dgolf

At $50 for the OEM transfer case fluid (assuming it's GL-4) compared to $25 or so for Redline or some other brand, and a roughly four year interval for changing it (I'm doing mine at 30k along with the diffs, trans drain and fill, and oil just for even numbers sake), it maps out to $0.05 cents per month I'm paying to use the OEM fluid... I can deal with that.

Also, I just reached out to the service manager again via email to ask if he can share a snippet of the data sheet for 00279-DGOLF to show what API spec it meets, or at least verbal confirmation of it. I'll share what he tells me when he get back to me.
