I know that Amsoil recently made some changes to their Universal ATF. The viscosity was changed, but I am not sure what other changes were made. Does anyone know why Amsoil decided to make these changes, or what the extent of the changes were? Perhaps the new the new formula will produce better UOA's?

Basically to make the ATF closer to Dexron VI. I have no details (nor does anyone else here...or rather some won't be saying of course). I think a slight tweak of FM's, using Afton and slight change to the synthetic base oils.

Why worry about it?

If a blender is practicing continual improvements, I wouldn't even want them to make it public.

Give me the best fluid that I can buy today. If if technology makes an improvement tomorrow, then at my next service, I'll get the best that I can buy on that day.

Yup^^^
And don't forget the manufacturers are constantly "improving" the engines/trannies/rear ends to meet various requirements and efficiencies. This results in new requirements for the fluids utilized.

I am not worried about the changes Amsoil has made to their ATF. I agree that formulation changes will occur and improvement opportunities are identified. I was just curious to find out if anyone knew the data that drove these changes to be made.

Amsoil ATF does not use Afton additives.

Aha, an insider. Please tell us more. I do not know the actual formula.

Actually I was referring Amsoil possibly making adjustments to more closely simulate a "true" Dexron VI GMN10060 requiring:

Quote:

Afton Chemical Corporation
HiTEC 3491 7.18 wt%
HiTEC 5738 1 to 5 wt%

I'm told that the Amsoil formulation is supplied by Lubrizol. It is definitely not the formulation you describe.

I do know that Amsoil doesn't use Lubrizol exclusively, but I didn't describe any formulation, I just quoted the GM spec. I know they must have used a thinner basetock or blend of basestocks to achieve the new lower viscosity. (Don't you think?) AND the additives were changed (look at the UOA's). AS for the organic FM's - maybe you know what they used?
