Hi I am sorry if I repeat a question but I am gonna try mobil one extended performance that garentees 15k, now is this really true would my car go okay for 15k without an oil change? And the main question is can I just use a regular oil filter for this oil like AC delco or do I really have to spend 12$ for a mobil one oil filter? Thanks

Nobody here can see the inside of your engine. Even if your engine appears relatively clean by glancing under the oil cap with a flashlight & your oil remains clear on the dipstick beyond 1K after an oil change & you are a middle-lane highway driver (non hot-rodder), I would still slowly loosen the oil pan bolt at 7500 miles with EP - let a few drips hit the oil pan -- then retrieve enough oil in a sample bottle for an analysis by Blackstone. Then tighten the bolt, change the filter using an AC, Wix or Motorcraft -- then top-off so the dipstick returns to full & await the results.

That's what I would do...

If your car is under warranty, don't do it.

If there is some kind of mechanical problem that contaminates the oil, and you wait 15k to change it, you may be in for some major $$$ problems.

I do like the "convenience factor" of not having to worry about it that long, if doing changes yourself is particularly inconvenient. I suppose there is an environmental "feel good" factor that goes along with this approach also.

If I were going to leave it on that long [which I don't], I'd probably opt for a $5-6 dollar filter like PureOne, Wix, or the $10 mobil oil filter.

If you are trying to save money, this isn't the way to do it. Running Supertech oil and filters for 3k miles is equally cost effective, or Havoline and AC filters for 4-5k miles, for that matter.

so you guys do not think mobil one extended performance is a good oil, it will not last the 15k? does anyone use this oil? I drive liek a 500 miles a week so thats why i thougth it woudl be good so I do not have to change oil every month its gettign anoying thats why, but if someone knows somehtign about htis oil please tell let me know.I thought they were I do have a warranty so that could cause problems? thanks

If your vehicle is still covered under the new vehicle warranty, using that product is not recommended by Mobil. You are supposed to be able to document changing the oil at least as often as your manual says you should.

There's nothing wrong with M1 ep at all. I use their products quite often in my own cars. I haven't seen enough UOA's of it at that mileage to say that it's fine for the full 15k.

For piece of mind, I would get a UOA [used oil analysis] of your car's oil first, to make sure there isn't anything that is contaminating the oil now.

If that looks ok, I would give it a shot, along with their expensive filter. If an oversize filter fits in your application, I would definitely use it.

My g/f drives around 550 miles a week on her car, so I know what you mean about not wanting to be bothered with impending oil changes all the time.

We buy synthetic when on sale [not particularly brand-specific], oil filters when on sale [or free after rebate], and run at least 5k oci's. Check the "product specials" section of the site.

i say it really depends on the vehicle. i would run the oil for 15k in my civic, since it isnt very hard on oil. but i would not run the filter for 15k, regardless of filter brand. however in my sisters 2.0l vw jetta, i would run both the oil and filter for 15k, since its oil filter is a monster compared to the one in my civic. as terminal said, id get a uoa before running an extended interval like 15k. in your shoes, id run mobil 1 ep for 10k, and get a uoa to see how much life is left in the oil.

You're under warranty ..but you can't be for too long. Even a 36/36 is over for you in less than 18 months.

You're a candidate for a 6 month OCI. You obviously do a great deal of highway driving with a majority of steady state fully warmed (not just coolant) running. This is about the best condition for long oil life. Any oil will just about last 6 months, regardless of mileage in a non-severe duty situation. You're operating at the least level of combustion byproducts and other insults to the oil.

If you're not concerned about warranty (I did 1200 miles a week with a Peugeot diesel that spec'd 3500 mile oil changes I know your pain) then, by all means, use a good synthetic with a good filter and do 6 month OCI's ..unless you can handle asynchronous oil changes at a given mileage. That is, you don't care to avoid doing one in the middle of the winter (eventually).

As others have suggested, UOA is recommended with any extended drain application.

How could you possibly have come to that conclusion? You were merely advised that if your vehicle is still under warranty, you had better change oil and filter as often as your owner's manual states or you could be on the hook for the full repair bill in the event you develop mechanical problems. NO ONE suggested that Mobil 1 EP is bad oil. (except YOU)
