What are you thoughts on the plastic cartridge ac delcos? I went with one considering I drive a Cadillac DTS and wanted to stick to OEM brand, but I am having second thoughts. The filter in question is the PF61E. They did not have the PF61 steel cartridge.

Can a smaller filter affect oil pressure? It is maybe half the size of the Napa gold It had on it when I got it. I went out and bought a Purolator Boss. All metal construction. I don't like the idea of having a plastic cartridge. At all. I will swap it out.

Yeah, the Boss filter has great construction if that's what you're after. Metal has been proven and provides superior uniformity across the media. There were some early versions of the ecore style design that was causing the filter to tear but as mostly been remedied with improvement design. OEM intervals should be just fine but the Boss is a Extended mileage filter vs the PF.

Don't swap it out. It will be fine. When the time comes to change it, then use the Boss, but don't throw away a good filter. I have been using lots of ecore filters and no problems whatsoever.

Alright thanks guys. Just wasn't sure. I do like the steel construction of the Purolator a lot more, but maybe I am just old school. The purolator was recommended to me on the cadillac forums. after a couple thousand miles on the AC Delco, I have had no issues. Plus, if I need to start a fire incase of an emergency, I have my AC Delco Ecore cartridge to burn so it says. Should go up well soaked in engine oil.

I like e-core filters - no louvers to worry about the amount open. However that is a lot of money for a basic Champ filter with a nitrile ADBV. I would definitely go to something else next time.

What OCI?

If you didn’t know, that filter is available from Walmart for $4.47, or the identical Luberfiner from WM for $3.91.
