Question About Changing Synthetic Oil

I believe it's hogwash. IMO, there is NO way changing the oil as frequently as desired will increase wear. I believe this misconception/misinterpretation may come from the fact that every oil change acts like a 'flush' and may therefore account for some increase in particulates/Fe etc. seen with more freq. than less freq. OCI's of the same mileage.

I bought the extended warranty on my car and would like to change the oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months so the dealer has no excuses for me not maintaining the vehicle.

If the fine print in that so-called extended warranty requires changing the oil at 3k/3-mo, then you gott'a do it to maintain the coverage. If it says to change the oil when the owner's manual says to, do that. If the extended service contract and owner's manual disagree with what the service writer is telling you, you tell him to go sh!t in his hat.

With those short oil drain intervals, there really isn't much benefit from the syn oil. I'd use any top quality conventional oil and good quality filter.

Everytime one changes the oil, the oil pump loses it prime, how many times do you want to start your engine with a pump that is not fully primed. Certainly not more than you really have to.

If I am wrong about this please do tell...

There is always a layer of oil left on rod and crank bearings etc.(ever pull a engine apart and take a rod cap off you'll see a nice layer of oil)so that start up is nothing to worry about..

Look, I've done 2,000-3,000 mile OCIs with Full Synthetic Mobil 1, GC 0w30 and Amsoil. However, you won't get much more wear if you run it out to 5,000 or even 7,500 mi in normal engines.

There is no extra wear from changing oil out that soon. At least not in my GM 2.2L Ecotec.
