Asians still dominate

Despite Ford’s strong performance and GM’s bright spots, Asian brands continued to dominate Consumer Reports nameplate rankings for predicted reliability.

Ford’s Mercury brand, ranked 10th, is the only nameplate in the Top 10 listing. Others in the top 10, in order, are: Scion, Honda, Toyota, Infiniti, Acura, Mitsubishi, Lexus, Hyundai and

Consumer Reports has just released results from its annual reliability survey and the findings show that Ford has made major gains to place itself among or ahead the most reliable Japanese brands. CR reports that 90 percent of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury products scored average or better reliability, and important models like the mid-size Fusion scored above the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Not all was rosy for FoMoCo, however, as all-wheel-drive versions of the Lincoln MKS, MKX and MKZ all scored below average in reliability.

Consider the source. Consumer Reports is better left to testing toasters. They base their info on surveys and we all know that people love to lie on surveys.

I agree that quality ratings, while worth reading, should be taken with a grain of salt. With the availability of information and test driving cars yourself, I think you can match yourself up to a car better than any magazine.

I can think of an Asian brand that comes to mind that is highly regarded by it's fans but has some issues I find completely unacceptable. Not naming any names because I have no interest in telling anyone that "their car sucks". It doesn't. However, they can enjoy the car they like and I'll enjoy mine.

The Ford Fusion outscores the Honda Accord in initial quality for all catagories. I don't care what CR might say. I have seen the internal audits on both vehicles that don't get published and Ford is kicking Honda's butt and Honda is worried believe me. It will take 2-3 years before the general public realizes this by experience and word of mouth but the Fusion has one of the lowest warranty stats in the industry. BTW, Ford's CEO is all about building high technology, high quality, high reliability vehicles and if he keeps going tha way he is going Ford will be the #1 US automaker in a very short time. There is kind of a buzz going on at Ford internally...the employees and union can see some light at the end of the tunnel. I predict they will be the premier US auto maker.

PT1 you have no idea how correct you are. I am in the business and believe me...if dealers had to live off Fusion warranty work there will be no Ford dealers very soon! This car is remarkably trouble free!

Then they wouldn't make any money on it.... Which they need to do to continue staying alive and paying off their loans. Which of course they did to stave off having to become patrons of the taxpayer's pockets like GM and Chrysler.
