Do you think the quality control of low cost oil like WM ST is equal to the majors like Mobil, Penz, Castrol etc? The lower cost oil like ST made to such a low price point should we be concerned about the quality control and how much different the oil could be from quart to quart?

No, it's probably fine. Remember, it's still API SN, and the synthetic is dexos approved.

In fact, XOM supplies the ST in some regions. It is probably rebranded Mobil Special. Other suppliers include WPP and Citgo. WPP makes a bunch of private label oils.

No way to tell. If you're worried about QC, purchase a name brand and don't lose sleep over it.

Millions of vehicles on the roads are filled with generic motor oil from the lowest bidder.

I'm much more concerned about QC for items like tires and brake pads.

Is there less quality control in generic drugs? Probably the same difference. Generic stuff is good enough.

It will be fine. Once a manufacture develops a process for making something, it becomes harder, not easier, to change the process. The benefit for mfg that rebrand their products to other labels is that they can confirm consistency of process and quality of product.

The notion that rebranded products are lower quality, seconds, is mostly [censored]

^ this. Meets the same specs and usually blended by the "name brand" guys. The minuscule benefits of the "name brands" oils are that they usually have more robust additive packages in their flagship oils.

No way the manufacturer of oil would lower their quality control standards just because its bottled for SuperTech, AAP, CarQuest, PepBoys, NAPA, Auto Zone, ....etc...

Lots of SuperTech in my area is made by Exxon Mobil.

Plus the name brands are spending millions on R&D to remain competitive. They also spend tons on advertising and sponsorship of race teams etc. You're not going to see the Supertech logo on Nascar or F1 cars or in a TV commercial.

All of those costs are reflected in the pricing of their products.

I doubt QC is how they hit a price point. I suspect its more that they just have a single add pack for all oils (Ive verified this with WPP), a very ordinary off the shelf add pack, and a very ordinary, good enough basestock. No R&D, no performance claims.

API is a floor, not a roof...

I hope Wpp is not like XoM or RDS who had major quality lapses I can recall.

PQIA has shown WM Supertech "Synthetic" nicely mode centered in its measurable attributes.

Supertech is fine oil...there is no evidence to support its in any way inferior to name brand oil. It meets the spec or it doesnt...

Id run it in my truck at a 5k oci and not worry a bit
