QuakerState Full Synthetic 75W90 GL4

Ahah! I stumbled across an MSDS for this one. It's called

Quaker State Ultra Premium SAE 75W-90 GL4

You won't find it listed on their website under product info for other gear lubricants but I stumbled across an MSDS entry for it. I think the product code is: 56125

Does anybody have any experience w/ this or knowledge about it?

Is it perhaps identical to the Pennzoil Synthetic SAE 75W-90 GL4 (product code: 57076)?

Oh and Quaker State does offer a conventional GL4 as well (75W90 & 80W90) so now we can add 3 more GL4s to the small list of hard to find GL4s.

Good luck finding it.

I searched everywhere for the Pennzoil in LA, had to call local distributor to find out who sells. He would sell me a case for $76. But I only needed 3 quarts. The 2 service places that had ordered were only willing to sell to me for an extreme marj up if I did not get car serviced there.

It is weird that a little product like Red Line is easier to get your hands then big brands like Pennzoil and Quaker State.

Tell me about it.

I live in a million plus size city and called everywhere. I found nobody, not even a 'distributor' that had the Pennzoil. I did find one distributor that had the Quaker State (same?). Now on the phone the guy said 'are you sitting down' - I figured OK so it costs maybe as much as a premium brand. Hardly!!! Try just under $190 for a case of 12! Unbelievable.

Redline should ride this marketing opportunity for all it's worth! I mean they typically tend to be a so-called premium brand w/ premium prices and here is big mass producer brand name Pennzoil/Quaker State offering their synthetic GL4 at something nearly approaching double redline.

Don't get me wrong, I like RL and have used their products many times in the past. I was just curious about the lack of GL4 selection and was curious to see just what was out there. When I learned of the Quaker State/Pennzoil stuff I thought 'hey they might be handy to buy and would probalby be in the ballpark of M1 or something. In fact I might even save on shipping and get a little discount on a case' How naive of me

I have a couple older vehicles that are getting up in years/miles, are hardly fancy hi perf cars or anything and at first I figured - these are hardly cars that really deserve fancy premium RL stuff - maybe if I could just find something that's a little better than StaLube it would be just what I need. (I'm ALWAYS sticking w/ RL on my one 'baby' in the GA though - that was never in question)

Had NO idea that RL was such a bargain when it came to GL4s. Shhh! Don't tell RL

Just kidding - actually when I make my next order of 'cheapie' RL GL4 I'll also send them a note and mention the big boys pricing of GL4 w/ a suggestion they branch out and start marketing there GL4 at least to a much broader distributorship. I don't know who exactly is or has ever been the Pennzoil/Quaker State customer for GL4s but w/ minimal effort on RLs part those rare GL4s might be permanently converted into paperweights.

The funny thing is that a lot of folks in the mainstream have hardly heard of RL and their first introduction might be that 'its the cheap stuff' ha ha.

Anyway thanks for the sanity check - I halfway wondered if there wasn't a simple math error on the price I saw but now I know.

I am also looking for GL4 gear oil for my Ford Explorer. I went into an oil distributer today, and was told they can special order Quaker State 75W90 GL4 conventional gear oil only in 20 liter pails, and the price is $85 Canadian.

BTW, this place carried every type of oil you could imagine, and the first thing I thought of was the people on this web site. I did fell like a kid in a candy store.

Yep, that's where I ended up. They didn't carry any conventional GL4s or offer to order any. Quaker State and Pennzoil both make an 80W90 conventional GL4 and I presume it has a more down to earth price than their synthetics. I believe it's the same oil regardless of brand and the difference is the color of the bottle or pail or whatever.

My choices come down to this: Redline mail order, Sta-Lube OTC, Amsoil perhaps.

Did you go ahead and order the conventional GL4? Here a fair price for conventional GL4 should average out to about $3 (US) if that helps any.
