Quaker State High Milage

I was at my Walmart today, and noticed that they are clearing out the stock of Quaker State High Mileage oils. Now usually, I would go for it, but upon further inspection I noticed the bottle said "with Slick 50" on it. Is that stuff really in there, or is that a marketing thing?

I did use the search function, but it didn't yield any results...

If there is, I have no idea how 'Slick 50' could help a High Mileage engine, its not a seal conditioner, it isn't designed to control burn-off, all it 'might' help with is anti-friction, if you belive it even does that.

Also, I highly doubt there is much in it, less than 5% at most...if the oil is a good deal, I'd buy it!

QS is redoing/renaming their oil line. The new QS h mileage does not mention Slick 50 in it although 50% more friction modifiers are listed on the label.

I remember a thread that said that after everything was said and done that whatever the "Slick 50" was there was only a little bit in there. And many people wondered if they only used the name on the bottle and only bumped up some of the add pack.

I think this is the oil that is in my Father's Taurus and he hasn't seen any trouble from the oil. Might want to look through the used oil analysis section.

I want to say that it was either $10 or $13. I didn't get the chance to look too hard, but I will probably buy some. Deals don't happen too much around here...

From what I've seen so far, it appears that the Slick 50 is just marketing/cross promotion, and not an actual additive... thank goodness.

Somewhere around 1996 or so, the Federal Trade Commission filed charges against Quaker State about Slick 50 ads and commercials making false claims. I believe Quaker State settled and had to change all their claims for slick 50. I am to lazy to Google search now but IIRC they had to remove Teflon from the formula, but not sure. I do remember a statement from DuPont that Teflon(PTFE) would not adhere until 300F and would vaporize at 700F. There was something about Teflon solidifying at temps below 300F and winding up in hydraulic valve lifters and oil filters. DuPont actually stated that Teflon had no value as an engine oil treatment.

The University of Utah, I think it was them, did a project and used slick 50 in a laboratory engine. Fuel consumption went down initially but UOA showed greatly increased iron.

I think the sSick 50 of today is something else entirely.

I saw the new abundance of QS 'High Mileage' 5 qt bottles with Slick 50 in it.
It was very well priced , but the Slick 50 scared me away.
Is is pure marketing? Is there some benefit? We know the teflon won't stick to surfaces like it does on a frying pan, but does is help in some way while in suspension?

I have used Slick 50 many years ago, and the idle would go up, cars would crank over faster, and there was a small perceived power increase.
Was there any damage? Don't know.
