Quaker State w/slick 50 already in it. .

At Wally world I noticed on the 5 quart jugs of quaker state it said "now with slick 50 added", a great way to drive away customers I guess.

Most DIY car people don't know how bad Slick 50 really is. I have to admit, back 15 years ago......I did put Slick 50 in my motor, and I had a 'warm fuzzy' feeling inside of me knowing that PTFE is protecting my motor.

You sure about this? The reason I ask is that I happened to be walking down the additive aisle at Wally*World recently and read the Slik 50 engine treatment packaging. I could swear it still indicated PTFE content. On the other hand, the Slick 50 website reads like a lawyered-up model of vagueries and non-information, so . . .
 
The folks at SOPUS/Shell are now marketing an entire line of products using the re-cycled Slick 50 brand.

I really doubt that teflon can be found in any of these SOPUS formulations. Evidently the Slick 50 brand tests positive in market research, otherwise SOPUS would not be tacking it on all these products.
 
I bet this oil would turn out good UOA's, even with Slick 50 in it. If I had to do an oil change & this QS/S-50 oil is all I had laying around, I'd use it.
 
Well, if we are going to bash it, lets make sure we are bashing the correct product. It is the Quaker State High Mileage oil that makes this statement, not regular Quaker State.

And I also agree with what pbm said above.
 
For some reason the PDF files weren't coming up for me. Anyway, only one (I believe) Slick50® has the teflon in it (oil treatment). The pro and others do not, IIRC.

It might be referring to the seal sweller or the other Slick50® additives.

QS/PZ is a fine product, associating it with S-50 seems like a good idea in the market research, but ultimately it brings down the prestige of QS. BTW- I am using QS Synth 5w-50...in my friend's Volvo, it was $1/q! I'd take that over S-50 anyday.
 
Meaningless. QS is a geezer brand, why not a geezer additive to boot? It's not PTFE anymore, likely just a conventional FM/AW package. Looks like QS is the corporate sacrificial lamb.

Actually the stuff I saw was regular quakerstate (green containers) not the high mileage. The regular QS said "Now with slick 50" the high mileage stuff (red container) did not have slick 50 on it.
 
MustangGT: I need you to recheck what you think you saw. I have checked with everyone that I know to contact and the regular green bottle conventional Quaker State DOES NOT have Slick 50 in it. Only the red bottle High Mileage oils.

Is what you saw some quarts of QS shrink wrapped with a bottle of Slick 50 mixed in. If that's the case, that just a retail promotion they ran awhile back and this is left over stock. Same on the red bottle High Mileage. If it has regular HM labels on it without the mention of Slick 50 on the front label, it's old stock. All the new red bottles of HM have Slick 50 on the front label.

I guess it could be possible someone put the wrong label on the green bottle, but I doubt it. If you can recheck this I would appreciate it. If it is the way you say it is, if at all possible take a picture of it and post it on this site. Or if you do not want to take a camera inside the store where you saw this, purchase a bottle of it then take a picture. I will reimburse you for your cost.

Johnny is correct. Although they still have issues on the SOPUS site for many of the product data sheets and MSDS, the index clearly ONLY shows "Higher" mileage with the Slick50® in it. Look for yourself:

Wasn't it fram that sold an oil filter that was preloaded with a dose of moly? If I rememebr it was about $1 more than the standard filter. Wonder how that percieved value added marketing strategy worked out?

It was TEFLON and it was about $2-3 more. AFAIK they still sell it.
