Some brief searching did not yield any results. Can anybody comment on the Quaker State oil filters? Picked up a couple for the F150 and the sisters Sebring as today was the last day for $2 filters at Menards. Construction looks decent from the outside, but how are they on the inside? I have always used Motorcraft/ACDelco/Mopar as appropriate but figured these looked alright.

Would you have any hesitation running them on the newer Ford OCI (10k, 1 year or when indicated, which ever comes first)?

They were Purolator as of a couple years ago. Worked at a GM dealer that used Quaker State oil and filters for their coupon price oil changes and they were shipped directly from Puro. Probably the same as the 'ProMotive' filters they also market to jobber shops.

They are basically a puro classic filter. I picked some up the other day that had a date of 2012 for the Taurus before the stretch of tears weve seen lately, looked a-ok and solid construction. I would not run them 10K, if I were going 10K it would be a Fram Ultra, TG, wix, or a P1/Bosch.

They are decent filters overall and great filters for the price ($2 at Menards on sale). The construction is the same as Purolator Classic with less pleats so less efficiency.

I use them during the hottest months of the summer where oil flow is great and the Nitrile anti-drainback valve won't matter.

I think there's been a few threads with some autopsies that look pretty good. I've seen a couple failures but that was on runs that were over 6k. 5k or less is a good interval for these filters.

Use with confidence.

Good info! I'm glad to see a someone from a competitor offering sound advice from experience/knowledge and not pushing their filters instead. Kudos to you Jay!

BTW, I'm loving the Fram Ultra I'm running right now.

Otoh, there is dnewton3 who has posted numerous times, including in this recent thread where he's reported running a nitrile Classic to 10k miles with no issues. I'd say while perhaps some might not take the Classic or any nitrile adbv that far as standard practice, I've seen others post using them that far, some using 2 oci's to that total or more. Unless one is getting a noticeable start up rattle, adbv composition may not be an issue. Baldwin/Clarcor use nitrile adbv.

As for QS, as mentioned most similar to PepBoys ProLine, Group7, ProMotive and other Puro 'made for' quick lube/jobber filters.

I've used them a few times. They're made by Purolator, probably similar to the old "ProLine" filters that Pep Boys used to sell, or the Total Grip filters that AAP used to sell. I believe they use a different media than the Purolator Classic, but they have the same construction. Not 100% sure on that, but I think I remember reading that somewhere.

Cool, looks to be a solid filter. Only draw back, especially on my Ford, is the nitrile adbv. Ail be using with confidence on the sebring but I may end up sticking with MC on the truck as I understand they use the better silicone adbv (horizontal filter)?

Was at the parts store looking at filters the other day and noticed a couple things in regards to the Quaker State filters, and this is with respect to Quaker State173/FL500S/whatever-the-Purolator-classic-number-is.

Visual inspection shows the Quaker State and Purolator Classic filters to be identical. same base plate, same spiral core, some coil spring bypass valve. This was not side by side so I don't want to comment on exact sizing, though that info should be readily available. They look identical.

The Motorcraft FL-500S Definitely has the same base plate as the Purolator Classic, even down to the stamped "22" and "S" markings. Looks like the bypass valve is mounted against the baseplate and silicone ADBV instead of the bottom of the case. Similar spiral center tube, but large case size.

Based on this I am fairly convinced that the Quaker State is a rebranded Purolator Classic. Which also means nitrile ADBV (as discussed earlier) which is the ONLY reason I would not run this confidently for longer periods since Ford likes to mount their filters horizontally. Not sure whats up with the Motorcraft bypass valve, though.

The Quaker State filter's ADBV is nitrile-but I've seen it fail early when used in a high-heat, horizontally mounted location. On my brother's old Tercel, it's bad by 2000 miles!

My Honda Civic 2000, is horizontally mounted. Why would that matter though?
