I was at Wal Mart at lunch, thinking I might feed the BITOG addiction.

There sat 5 qt jugs of QS, and right on the label it said that Teflon 50 was in the stuff. I was very surprised. I believe it was the dino QS and 10W-30 in weight. Should have taken a cell phone pic.

Why'd they do that?

Oops, I meant to type SLICK 50, not Teflon 50 but you guys prolly already knew that.

Regular as I remember it, I almost fainted and had to vacate the aisle as quickly as possible!

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

If its nothing but a base oil/snake oil, why bother... I guess we can chalk it up to sleazy marketing.

It's a trade name that they're using for marketing. They can change the formula as they see fit and probably eliminated the teflon.

QS owns Slick 50, so why the surprize. They have bundled the Slick 50 with the oil for a while. When that happened it lowered my opinion of QS, and I was further disappointed when QS bought Pennzoil. I always liked Pennzoil, still do, but wonder what they will do with it in the future.. and then they all got bought by Shell. It is hard to keep all this stuff straight, probably had other changes as well... s50 msds still lists teflon....

. It seems that QS comes out with a new variation of motor oil every couple of months. Heck they seem to have a "special" oil for almost any occasion. But I would avoid any oil that advertised that it had teflon in it

QS paid 60 mil for Slick 50 back in the 90s which gives you some insight on how profitable those little bottles of stuff can be.....

CORRECTION: It's the other way around. Pennzoil bought Quaker State and the Slick 50 came with the package. I don't like it any better than you do. We tried to sell it but at the time there were no buyers. Not sure what Shell will wind up doing with it.

I dont think that Slick 50 has teflon in it anymore. I think its just a name I would not be surprized if someone did a VOA on it and it turned out to be 40wt oil with a lot of adds simular to VSOT.

The oil is the QS High Mileage oil and the VIS is whatever it says on the bottle.

Now, to the Teflon issue. Slick 50 is no longer made with powered particles as in the old days. You do not have to shake it up and no particles settle in to the bottom of the bottle. We all know about powered moly and soluable moly, well this is soluable teflon if that's what you want to call it. It is not purchased from DuPont, so I'm not even sure if it is teflon. I don't believe claims are being made that it last any longer than the oil change. It sure as heck won't plug a filter or oil passages or cause oil starvation. Heck, it might even help gas mileage by 1/2%.

Years ago someone said, if it's so good why don't the oil companies put it in their oil, well they did and it is selling like hotcakes to all those Slick 50 crazies.

Personally I don't use it or any other additives in a well formulated oil.

After the Slick 50 lawsuit, I am surprised they could give away QS oil with Slick 50 inside. The lawsuit was for false advertising, I believe.

Yep, they sure did and that's why them and Valvoline got sued. They changed the formulation and no longer make those stupid claims and sales are up.

9,000 plus members of BITOG won't use it, but 50 million other motorist do.

I think we need a virgin here. OK a VOA.

Funny how we tend to think others have the same perception of a product - I really wonder what the audience says (so to speak)

1% think Slick 50 sux
4% think it's better than a nekid blind date
99% don't give a rat
