QS or Castrol GTX?

The nearest Pep Boys is 52 miles away from me. My cousin lives near it and said he would pick up either of the Black Friday oil change specials I wanted,X2,including 2 extra qts of oil in whatever brand I choose (Quaker State or Castrol),in exchange for the oil filters. Which would you choose? I'm leaning towards the Castrol.The Quaker State deal is $7,Castrol $8.Each includes a Purolator Classic oil filter and 5qts of oil.

Castrol GTX, without a doubt. It is the company's best conventional oil.

QS is now Shell's best conventional oil.

I would personaly choose QS over castrol. I've used both oils and I felt Quaker State Conventional did just as well as gtx did but at a lower price point.

i would take castrol and Pennzoil conventional ( same $ for blackfriday at pepboys ) over QS

pick up 10 qt of each ( 2 castrol deal , 2 yellow bottle deal )

if you want pick up QS on top of that, otherwise i would pick Pennzoil Conventional and castrol over QS.

Double check with them that the rebate are separate otherwise you just wasted money.

+1. Castrol felt too thin for my cars. They both ran louder on GTX but have run nicely on Pennzoil/QS products. Obviously this might be in my head but they sound better with them

Does Castrol GTX have the same,similar,or better cleaning agents package as does Quaker State and Pennzoil Conventional?

gtx has a good NOACK, but QS looks superior pretty much across the board according to this:

for $1 less it's a no-brainer.

if Pennzoil Conventional is only $1 more i would probably go with that though.

I'm not sure what all those numbers and ingredients mean,but i'm currently running Mobil Super 5000.How is that add package compared to the other oils in that survey?

Castrol GTX
Quaker State

You can't go wrong with all three.

Castrol for sure over Quaker State Conventional, Pennzoil conventional would be a toss up.

GTX is Castrol's flagship conventional, Quaker State Conventional is Shell's discount name brand there's a hint right there. Look at the sulfur contents on that link, GTX is better stuff.

But your engine will outlive the rest of your vehicle on any of them.

Have never been disappointed with Quaker State conventional using it in several vehicles. In the late GF's V-6 Duratech, the motor never sounded better. Got its best mileage also. My 2005 Accord K24 and the Tacoma have both performed well with similar attributes as listed above, this includes both 5w-20 and 5w30.

Although batches can vary, GTX has typically been a little thicker than it's SOPUS counterparts (ex 5W30 - 10.8cSt vs 10.5cSt @100*C).

I've always liked both, so it's a toss up on price for me.

GTX is what I`d choose. But nothing wrong with the Q State either i guess.

I would do what my neighbor does every time something like this happens. He takes a coin, says "heads: Pennzoil conventional, tails: Valvoline conventional" whatever it lands on he buys.
