Found this oil on clearance at AutoZone a few weeks ago. Used some today. I shook the 5qt jug about 10 seconds and poured it in.

Guess 10 seconds was not nearly enough as after pouring it out there was a large amount of black stuff in the bottom of the jug. I ASSume it's Moly.

Or at least supposed to be in the oil.

I had some more oil and was able to pour a few ounces into the jug and shook it. Still there. Shook more and more. Took about 5 minutes of shaking to get it all fixed into the oil.

Anyone ever had that much trouble getting it all mixed up after sitting? I do not know how long it sat around @ AutoZone before I purchased it .

I remember that ACDC song, but it was not Oil.

I always think 30 seconds is best for the 1st time, that is JMO, but we will stick with your 10 seconds.

What vehicle that oil went to?
I would remove the filter after 500 miles and check it out. The worst case is that black thing on the bottom is probably part of the oil additive package and if it doesn't get in suspension with the rest of the oil that may significantly lower the oil lubricating abilities. Your engine might not get optimal lubrication with that oil.

Are there any dates or numbers on the jug to try to figure out the production date?
If there any readable numbers on the jug, I would call Shell/QS and try to find the production date of that jug.

02 wrangler. I did not see any easily identified date codes

That’s a small part of why I stopped running Pennzoil a couple years ago. I know it’s been debated here if additive fallout can occur within a certain timeframe or not, but I’ve had jugs of Pennzoil that were just purchased at Walmart and then used for an oil change within days, show dark sediment at the bottom. You can see it clearly in the yellow jugs.

I had that with clear QS 4x4 oil bottles and horsepower. I put oil in old pot and on hot plate. Let it get hot a while and the “fallout” bs mixed back in. Oil was in service 7k in a 03’ accord. Nothing bad happened

That’s the most ill advised info in entire thread.

I’m hardly a “hater”. I’ve run more SOPUS products in my current vehicle than any other brand…
So have I and never had any bad luck with stuff in bottom of oil quart or jug. This one so not earth shattering problem; it’s just like a car wreck everyone has to talk about it

So you’re saying that your own lived experience doesn’t replicate another’s, therefore other people’s experiences are irrelevant.

Great way to live.

changed oil yesterday and shook the crap out of my Pennzoil Ultra Platinum oil jug...after dumping half of the jug in I stopped and shook the crap out of it for another couple minutes like really shook it up....there was still the dark residue in the ripples on the bottom of the jug....jug had a may of 2025 date on it. my life will continue to be good LOL....
