Probably because your old fluid was sheared and the new fluid has the right viscosity.

I've only used the Honda P/S fluid in other makes of vehicles that required P/S fluid as compared to ATF. And I only use ATF in vehicles that require ATF as their P/S fluid.

I couldn't tell anyone wheather or not P/S fluid and ATF are actually similar or the same fluids with different add pks because I don't know! Does anyone here know for a fact if they are similar?

Molakule once told us (in the forum somewhere, have to search) that ATF is a good hydraulic fluid which is what PS is, and can be used in most PS fluid application if the viscosity is right.

Since MB recommendes Dexron III or their own P/S fluid in the P/S system and Dexron III is hard to find at any auto parts store, can I used Dexron VI instead, or M1 all vehicles ATF ?

What really bug me is the steering is smooth and quiet when the car is start and drive the first 5-10 minutes in the morning, after 10-15 minutes when engine warm up it would whine when steer either direction, but quiet going straight.

Stick with the Honda fluid, it is not that expensive. Bardahl's is definitely not equivalent. Not sure about Pyroil but i wouldn't take any chances.

I tried Bardahl's Honda compatible fluid and found my steering to be very stiff in cold weather.

I put the bottles outside at -30C and OEM honda fluid was very different with a much lower pour point. The Bardahl would not pour at all.

I dumped the Bardahl and put in Honda fluid and everything is back to normal. Two of the Honda bottles will be plenty.

Dexron VI has a warning in the label that said do not use as a Dex II/III power steering fluid replacement. Its viscosity is different, thinner than the original Dex II/III.

I'd use a MDIII, Mercon V, or any plain old ATF for PS.

Whine during steering means it is not working when under pressure. When going straight there is no pressure in the system, most of the fluid is bypassed in the pump. I had a PS pressure hose burst and it only leak when I turn the steering wheel.

Most DexII/III's will shear below the Dex6 cst quickly. So, I don't think the visc argument will hold up.

Whine when hot but not cold(hint visc) means that something is worn out, either the fluid or the pump. So, flushing/changing the fluid is a good and cheap preventive maintenance step.

BG, Wynns, RP, RL, Ams, Synlube, Neo... have power steering fluids for those that want something other then OE.

Bg ps fluid is awsome. Made my old ford escort p/s pump very quiet, all the techs where impressd! Same thing with my lincoln! I like to think its a magic fluid.. But im pretty sure rp amsoil and redline are better products..But then again i dont care, cause i get free bg stuff..

I have used "non-genuine" honda PS fluid when I was cleaning/clearing it up..... no problems. this pump has 320k miles so as long as bottle says approved for honda, you should be ok. mine is a 95 accord

I have used it with good results.

Any brand with Honda spec on the label is fine . At some point, it is good idea to periodically change the PS fluid . Drain (turkey baster) and fill drive then repeat a few times until reservoir is clear - easiest or flush ( remove return lines ) .
